About North Kawartha

Tucked into the northern reaches of Peterborough County, where rolling farmland meets rugged rock, North Kawartha is a place where landscapes tell stories. Just past Burleigh Falls, the land shifts – deciduous forests give way to windswept pines and granite outcrops, marking the dramatic beginning of the Canadian Shield. This natural threshold is known as The Land Between, a one-of-a-kind ecological transition zone shaped by glaciers over 20,000 years ago.

Here, nature and heritage intertwine. Explore a region rich with Indigenous history, logging roots, and a deep connection to the outdoors. From the lakeside charm of Apsley to the scenic shores of Chandos Lake and the rushing waters of Burleigh Falls, every corner of North Kawartha invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with what matters most.

Ready to hit the road? Whether you’re a first-time visitor, a curious local, or returning to your favourite hidden gems, we’ve crafted a road trip itinerary to help you experience the best of North Kawartha – one scenic stop at a time.
