Fishing in The Kawarthas

Get Hooked

Families, friends, and professional anglers have been casting their lines in the unique blend of cool – and warm-water lakes in The Kawarthas for generations.

Whether you’re enjoying a weekend away with your pals or teaching a little one to cast a line (and getting the snapshot of their first fish for the ‘gram, of course), fishing in The Kawarthas is perfect for your next adventure.

Ice Fishing. Do we need to say more? One of Canada’s most cherished pastimes thrives in The Kawarthas. If you’re new to the sport, choose a day with lots of sun and not a lot of wind, and make sure you dress appropriately (Bundle up!) Two great spots to check out when you’re getting started are Rice Lake and Chemong Lake where you’ll nab some perch, bluegill, and crappie. For the more experienced ice fisher, we recommend getting out to the Kawartha Highlands, where you’ll find a unique backcountry ice fishing experience where you’ll have the chance to pull in some beautiful rainbow trout (and be a dinnertime hero).
