The O’de Piitaanemaan Pledge

In 2021, the PKT team developed local a campaign to launch the “O’de Piitaanemaan Pledge” (pronounced Oh-da Pee-tah-na-mawn) for the benefit of its residents, business owners and, of course, those who make up the important visitor economy.

Created in consultation with Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation and drawing on the teachings of theMichi Saagiig Anishinaabeg, the O’de Piitaanemaan Pledge represents a universal and evergreen value—respect—and serves to unify everyone for whom the region lives within their hearts.

Given the challenges we’ve all faced over the past 2 years, a united pride of place among residents, business owners and visitors will be essential to successful tourism recovery for 2022 and beyond.

The O’de Piitaanemaan Pledge is:

  • A commitment made by visitors to make good choices and respect the land, waterways, culture and communities of Peterborough & the Kawarthas
  • An educational tool meant to increase awareness of and appreciation for the tremendous natural, cultural, and historical values of this great place

It is expected to be partly cloudy with a high of 0.2°C today.

Become a Pledge Ambassador

Beginning in the spring of 2022, PKT will be promoting the O’de Piitaanemaan Pledge to visitors near and far, and we’ll be encouraging everyone to take, share and support the Pledge at the beginning of the core tourism season.

This will include outreach to local and national media, social media campaigns, marketing and B2B communications over the next 12 months. We have already surpassed our goal of reaching 1000 pledges in 2021, and we’re hoping, with your support, to reach 2500 pledges by the end of 2022.
