Find a foodie escape just 90 minutes northeast of Toronto. Sneak away this weekend. Here, you can explore how local flavours and farm fresh goods are served up on tables throughout the region. Enjoy a warm welcome with this curated collection of experiences that are part of the Great Taste of Ontario in Peterborough & the Kawarthas.

Begin your trip with a visit to the Peterborough Regional Farmers’ Market, where you can find fresh local produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, and more. The market is open on Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm. Starting in May, you can also check out the outdoor farmers’ market every Wednesday.

After looking at all that scrumptious food, your tummy is probably rumbling for a filling brunch. A short walk up to Hunter Street, it’s time to visit Sam’s Place Deli. The attention to detail in every sandwich and side is what separates a sandwich from a Samwich. Their menu is full of locally-sourced breads, house-cured meats, and perfectly selected flavour combinations that showcase some Peterborough & the Kawarthas finest ingredients. They have a great selection of breakfast sandwiches, classic sandwiches, and several sassily named specials too!

Head to scenic Rice Lake for a relaxing evening at Elmhirst’s Resort. This four-season cottage resort offers a spa, excellent dining and a host of activities for the whole family. Check in to your cottage before heading to dinner at one of the 2 onsite FeastON certified restaurants. Elmhirst proudly serves their guests and the local community with locally sourced or farm-raised food and drink. Dine in casual elegance in the Hearthside Dining Room, or a casual family friendly pub atmosphere patio at the Wild Blue Yonder Pub and Patio.

Brunch boards. Wood fired pizza. Whether you pair them with a glass of their signature Marquette, split a pitcher of sangria, or quench your thirst with a fresh frosé, you’re going to love how we do grape-to-glass in Peterborough & the Kawarthas! Throughout the summer, Rolling Grape Vineyard becomes a buzzing local favourite spot with live music, brunch, harvest dinners and more!

Note: Rolling Grape Vineyard is closed January & February. Check out our list of Breweries, Distilleries & Wineries for other places to quench your thirst!

Doo Doo’s famous butter tarts win ribbon after ribbon, year after year… Discover why their butter tarts make their Bailieboro location a must-stop location for those traversing along Highway 28.

Head to picturesque Millbrook (you’ll quickly see why this is a favourite rural Ontario film location). Millbrook Mercantile is well-known for providing the highest quality, small batch, artisanal and hard to find items, with an emphasis whenever possible on locally sourced and grown. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff are committed to making your visit a truly memorable experience.
