Lang Pioneer Village

Discover the history, language and culture of the Michi Saagiig (Mississaguas) at Aabnaabin Camp. Costumed interpreters also demonstrate the settler story as they demonstrate the life and trades of a settler in the 1800’s. Many of the buildings were relocated to the Village from within Peterborough County in order to preserve the region’s history. Lang Pioneer Village nestles the shores of the Indian River and boasts a fully-operational Grist Mill and a Weaver Shop which houses one of only a handful authentic Jacquard looms on display in North America as well as a fully-operational replica loom. This rare exhibit offers the exceptional opportunity to see the workings of the loom closely from above on a mezzanine. Lang Pioneer Village is the perfect location to retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern living and experience Peterborough County’s history come to life.

The Hope Mill

The mission of the Hope Mill is to preserve and promote knowledge of 19th century water-powered wool and lumber milling technology through the safe demonstration of operating heritage equipment and sharing of historical archives. There are demonstrations of water-powered sawmill, carpenter’s tool exhibit, and children’s workshops.
