Five-time CCMA Female Artist of the Year, Tenille Townes, will open the 37th annual Peterborough Musicfest at Del Crary Park on June 29, 2024. Hailing from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Townes discovered her love for songwriting at 14, inspired by artists like Patty Griffin and Lori McKenna. Her career includes tours with legends such as Stevie Nicks and Shania Twain, and she has won two JUNO Awards, 17 CCMA Awards, and two Academy of Country Music Awards. Known for her storytelling, Townes’ debut album, “The Lemonade Stand,” featured the award-winning track “Jersey on The Wall.” Her latest release, “As You Are,” explores new sonic territories.
Opening for Townes is rising star Griffen Palmer, known for his heartfelt ballads and songwriting for artists like Florida Georgia Line and Keith Urban. Growing up in a musical family in Ontario, Palmer’s early influences included John Mayer and Kings of Leon. After college, he moved to Nashville, signing with Big Loud in 2019.
Townes’ debut album, “The Lemonade Stand,” earned her the 2021 JUNO Award for Country Album of the Year, followed by her 2022 album “Masquerades,” which won the same award. Her latest work, “As You Are,” released in February 2024, diverges from past hits like “Somebody’s Daughter,” embracing a more spacious Americana sound and themes of acceptance and unconditional love. Palmer, a winner of NBC’s Songland, has quickly become a sought-after songwriter and performer, known for his engaging lyrics and small-town sentiments.
