Gather the family, it is time to explore the fall foliage and have fun along the way.

First Stop: Fall Colours with Feathered and Furry Friends

Peep the fall colours and make furry and feathered friends at Riverview Park & Zoo. This spot – Canada’s only free-admission accredited zoo (donations gratefully accepted). Located just north of downtown Peterborough, is a great spot o enjoy a leisurely stroll while getting acquainted with otters, meerkats, camels and the many other animals who call this spot home.

Second Stop: Spelunking in a Natural Playground

Sweeten the drive with a quick stop at Kawartha Sweets and Eats in Douro on your way to Warsaw Caves Conservation Area. Go spelunking (cave exploring) or simply take in the fall colours along the Lookout Trail overlooking the Indian River.

Third Stop: Photo Opps and Souvenirs

With photo opps and a souvenir shop, be sure to shop at Lockside Trading Company in Young’s Point. This waterfront cottage shop is steps from Lock 27 – Young’s Point, one of the most travelled locks on the historic Trent-Severn Waterway.

Third Stop: Take Your Pick from the Patch

Get into the harvest spirit at McLean’s Berry Farm where you can stock up at the farm shop and pick your own pumpkins down the road. Pumpkinfest runs all four weekends in October at their Buckhorn Berry Farm location complete with wagon rides, pumpkin picking, mazes, a pumpkin cannon, and a few spooky attractions along the way!

Fourth Stop: Lakeside Lunch

Just around the corner, stop for a locally-sourced meal at Frederick’s at Beachwood Resort. Their kids menu – complete with flatbread pizzas, chicken fingers, a house burger, and fettuccini will have the little ones in your crew smiling. (This spot also has a great places to stay if you’re looking to extend your stay).

Fifth (and Final) Stop: Satisfy your Sweet Tooth

After a full day of fall colours and family fun, satisfy your sweet tooth at Central Smith Creamery.
