Celebrate Black History Month at the Library with a family-friendly movie on the big screen! We’ve picked some of our favourites to share with you, so get comfortable and grab some popcorn.

February 10: Double Feature

Hair Love (G) Hair Love is a heartfelt animated short film featuring a Black father who has to do  his daughter’s hair for the first time. Winner of the Academy Award® for Best Animated Short, this film is all about love – for your hair and yourself. (2019, 7 min)

The Princess and the Frog (G)
Walt Disney Animation Studios presents the musical The Princess and the Frog, an animated comedy set in the great city of New Orleans. In this modern twist on a classic tale, Tiana became Disney’s first animated Black princess, a big moment for both her viewers and Disney. (2009, 98 min)

February 24: Little Mermaid (G)
The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, Ariel is a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. Longing to find out more about the world beyond the sea, Ariel follows her heart and endeavours to experience life on land. In this live remake of the 1989 classic, Disney cast Halle Bailey – an African American actor singer. (2023, 135 min)
