‘Safe Travels’ Stamp

For the Literary Tourist: There is much to delight the literary tourist at this historic hot spot. As part of a larger exhibit on the history of the region, you’ll find a display on settler, author and amateur botanist, Catherine Parr Traill. The display includes some of her personal belongings, most notably, her pen.

In the archives you will also find an extremely rare herbarium that Parr Traill put together for her grandson in 1891. This exceptional album consists of mounted ferns, grasses, moss, and flower specimens. Due to its fragility, the album is not normally available for viewing; however there are a number of the author’s early and first editions of her published works that are sure to interest the literary tourist.
