As June 20th approaches, the New Canadians Centre (NCC) eagerly prepares to commemorate World Refugee Day 2024, embracing this year’s theme of “Our Home.” Home represents more than just a physical space—it embodies safety, belonging, and connection. It’s where cultures flourish, identities are celebrated, and communities thrive.
For many refugees, home is a journey—a pursuit of refuge and the reconstruction of lives. It’s in the resilience of individuals and communities as they navigate new landscapes and cultures, seeking to recreate the warmth and sense of belonging they once knew.
In celebration of Refugee Week, the NCC is delighted to collaborate with the Peterborough Public Library to host a special Community Conversation panel discussion. Titled “Our Home,” this event aims to delve deeper into the theme of home and its significance for refugees.
The panel of speakers, representing diverse backgrounds and experiences, will share insights and stories that shed light on the meaning of home, the challenges faced by refugees, and the importance of community support and solidarity. Through knowledge exchange and collective action, the aim is to pave the way towards a more inclusive, equitable, and resilient future.
Join the NCC on World Refugee Day for this enriching Community Conversation. Let’s come together to explore how we can make “Our Home” a sanctuary for all, where every individual is welcomed, valued, and empowered to thrive.
