Exactly one week before Christmas Day the Peterborough Singers, led by Syd Birrell with Ian Sadler at the mighty Cassavant pipe organ, bring you George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah.” With guest soloists soprano Lesley Bouza, mezzo-soprano Lillian Brooks, tenor Joshua Wales, bass Graham Robinson, trumpeters Paul Otway and Douglas Sutherland, timpanist Stan Ewing. Sponsored by Westland Insurance. Tickets available on our website https://www.peterboroughsingers.com/tickets/.
Handel’s Messiah is beloved for too many reasons to count, but to name a few: the “Hallelujah” chorus, the tenor soloist singing “Comfort ye,” the agility of the choir with “All we like sheep have gone astray,” the trumpet and bass soloist interacting in spectacular fashion for “The trumpet shall sound,” the reassurance of “I know that my redeemer liveth” by the soprano soloist and the monumental concluding “Amen” chorus.
