The literal translation of Mashiach or messiah is “anointed”. Anointing is a ritual of consecrating something or someone with holy oil. For many, the ritual of attending our annual performance of The Messiah is a way to embrace and absorb the sacred story of the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. For others, the ritual creates a sacred space for the solo human voice, for inspired choruses, for the sounds and the ancient words of a 280-year-old tradition. For others who may attend The Messiah for the first time, we hope that you will be blessed by the energy, poignancy, and glory of this music.
The Peterborough Singers present a 280-year-old tradition of inspired choruses and solo voices. With special guests Shannon McCracken (soprano), Martina Myskohlid (mezzo), Jacob Abrahamse (tenor), Alex Halliday (bass), Ian Sadler (organ), Paul Otway and Doug Sutherland (trumpets). Directed by Syd Birrell. Tickets are available at the door. Masks are required at this concert.
Generously sponsored by Westland Insurance.
