ZimArt’s Rice Lake Gallery, African sculpture on display in the Kawartha landscape
Founded in 2000, the Rice lake Gallery is best described as a museum in nature. Curator, Fran Fearnley, travels to Zimbabwean to select unique hand-carved stone sculpture directly from the artists. The sculptures, in a range of sizes, are installed over three acres in this natural setting and surrounded by stunning views. All the works are for sale.
Every year a visiting Zimbabwean artist offers stone sculpting workshops and demonstrations. The gallery also hosts a number of different events annually. Please visit the website’s Special Events page for more details.
The Gallery is open daily from June 1 to Thanksgiving, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free. Picnic facilities are provided. The Gallery’s annual exhibition runs from the first Saturday in August to the first Sunday in September.
This is a perfect destination for art lovers of all ages. This is a great place to introduce children to art. Touching (carefully!) is part of the experience.
