The Indian River Reptile Zoo was established in 1998.

In 2000 the zoo received accreditation from Canada’s Accredited Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA), it is the only accredited nonprofit institution of its kind in North America! In 2001, the zoo became a training facility for all Canadian Federal Wildlife Officers as well as several other government agencies. In 2009, the zoo became a not for profit organization and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) registered charity* in order to gain public support. The zoo focuses its resources on the protection of the world’s reptile species. Today, the Indian River Reptile Zoo is the leader in its field – actively participating in internationally regulated conservation programs and is primarily devoted to education. In 2012, Indian River Reptile Zoo introduced the fundraising event ‘DINOSAURS LIVE’ with life size animatronic dinosaurs that moved, roared, and one even spat water! In 2013, ‘DINOSAURS RETURN’ took place with new and exciting species that did not disappoint, and included the introduction of the Zoo’s very own 30ft Crocodile Slide! This fundraising event is continuing this summer (June 28 – September 2, 2014) with ‘DINOSAURS ROAR!’ Be sure to not miss this iconic event, and come check out the new selection of dinosaurs being brought to life at our facility! In addition, thanks to the dinosaurs (i.e. all of our supportive customers and sponsors), the Indian River Reptile Zoo will have a new building on the premises to house our growing crocodilians!

Open May – September. Check out our website ( & Facebook page and group for more details!
