Dwayne Gretzky are Canada’s reigning champs of nostalgia and a can’t miss live music experience; a curated nostalgia trip that captures the unique joy of turning a radio dial and being surprised by the familiar. A 10+ piece juggernaut that brings to life the greatest songs of all time, this talented group of Toronto musicians ignites audiences with their charm, fidelity and theatrical flair. Celebrating classic pop and rock, from Fleetwood Mac to Fatboy Slim, Dwayne Gretzky has delivered electrifying renditions of over 700 songs.
Since the band’s inception in 2011, Dwayne Gretzky has developed a fervent fan base across Ontario and parts of Canada on the strength of their live show – performing classic songs with faithful precision in packed venues and major festivals, and playing alongside the Rolling Stones, and being offered other major opportunities that belie the tag “cover band” .
When a pandemic shut down in-real-life gatherings globally, it was expected that the joy felt at a Dwayne Gretzky show would be shelved until further notice. Nobody could have guessed that an 18+ month hiatus on live events would prove to be a catalyst for growth for a group whose bread and butter is packing venues.
However, it’s been the COVID lockdowns that have launched Dwayne Gretzky beyond the “local legend” status they’ve held for years thanks to the success of two epic live streams. For the first time, the Dwayne Gretzky experience was felt by people beyond a festival or music venue, as the band brought the party into people’s living rooms. Over 180,000 unique visitors caught Dwayne Gretzky from home over 2 marquee livestream events.
Dwayne Gretzky’s audience is now more widespread and thirsty than ever before. As we return to “normal”, Dwayne Gretzky continues to shatter conventions and bring people together in a celebration of the songs we all forgot we loved.

A legendary concert event wholly deserves a re-creation of epic proportions.
So it is that since 2011, with Juno Award-winning producer Lance Anderson at the helm as musical director, The Last Waltz – A Musical Celebration of The Band Live has enthralled audiences across Canada with its stunning tribute to The Band’s final live performance on November 25, 1976 at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco.
Having first headlined at Peterborough Musicfest in 2016, The Last Waltz – A Musical Celebration of The Band Live returns to Del Crary Park on Wednesday, July 20.
Besides a generous selection of The Band’s classic songs, the free admission 8 p.m. concert will also feature a very special tribute to the late Ronnie Hawkins featuring The Weber Brothers, who were members of The Hawks, joined by special guests. Hawkins was among a number of artists who joined The Band onstage for their final performance 48 years ago, performing his signature hit Who Do You Love? in rousing support of the musicians that backed him from 1958 to 1963.
Joined by special guests Chuck Jackson, Johnny Max, Matt Weidinger and Quisha Wint, Anderson (piano/vocals) will lead a stellar nine-member band featuring Levon Helm’s godson Jerome Levon Avis (drums/vocals). Also in the mix are Terry Blersh (guitar), Wayne Deadder (bass) and Rob Gusevs (organ), and a stellar horn section comprised of David Dunlop (trumpet), Simon Wallis (baritone sax), Gord Meyers (trombone) and Chris Murphy (tenor sax).
Anderson et al will perform a number of The Band’s timeless fan favourites, including The Weight, The Night They Drove Ol’ Dixie Down, Up On Cripple Week, Life Is A Carnival, The Shape I’m In, Rag Mama Rag and Ophelia, along with songs that were performed by The Band’s special guests all those years ago.
Formed in Toronto in 1967, The Band – Levon Helm, Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson and Richard Manuel – revealed itself as something very special with its critically acclaimed debut album Music From Big Pink. The Band was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. The Last Waltz film, directed by Martin Scorsese, remains celebrated as one of the greatest concert documentaries ever made.
When it comes to staying power, few Canadian bands can match the 40-years plus run of West Coast born alt-rock outfit 54-40.
Formed in 1980 by high school pals Neil Osborne and Brad Merritt – the band’s first gig was played in Coquitlam on the night John Lennon was murdered – 54-40 was subsequently featured heavily on the Canadian rock charts from the mid 1980s to the late 1990s on the strength of hit songs such as I Go Blind, She-La, Ocean Pearl, Luv You All and Since When.
Three albums – Dear Dear (1992), Smilin’ Buddha Cabaret (1994) and Trusted By Millions (1996) were certified platinum while 1998’s Since When earned gold status.
Nominated for eight Juno Awards, 54-40 was among the top 50 selling Canadian artists from 1996 to 2016.
Since releasing its debut album Set The Fire in 1984, 54-40 has released 13 studio albums, the latest being 2018’s Keep On Walking. In 2021, the band added Embassy Supreme to a very long list of single releases over close to four decades.
With Osborne (vocals/rhythm guitar) and Merritt (bass) still leading the charge, they’ll return to Peterborough Musicfest with band mates Dave Genn (lead guitar), David Osborne (organ/saxophone), and Matt Johnson (drums) who has been in the fold since 1986.

says Sam Grosso, Cadillac Productions, Toronto Ontario. They’re talking about the “The Bowie Lives” Canada’s most sensational Bowie Spectacular! Michael Bell is an award-winning vocalist who channels the sound and styles of David Bowie, and with the help of an all-star band, theatre and costumes, captures the imagination of fans young and old.
Michael’s first theatrical production “ChangesAllBowie” toured the “A circuit” in the late ’80s. He hung up his “Ziggy” in the early ’90s and never imagined professionally performing Bowie again! After David’s untimely death on January 10, 2016, his calling returned, as did the industry interest. Contacting long-time musical director Michael Beauclerc, they began auditioning players to fill out a band capable of performing some of Rock’s most challenging material. The Bowie Lives bring all the hits to the stage, from Space Oddity to Lazarus, and everything in between.

When asked to choose between music and a relationship, there’s only ever been one answer for JJ Wilde. Music has permeated every part of her life since childhood, and it’s something she’s held closely; an unwavering connection she’s fought to foster.
The result is a meteoric rise over the past 18 months, putting her squarely on the radar of rock fans around the world, breaking records and helping to break the glass ceiling for women in rock. Her debut single “The Rush” saw global radio airplay, hitting #1 on OUI-FM in France, and spending an unprecedented 10 weeks at #1 on Canada’s three rock radio charts surpassing artists like Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters. That momentum helped propel her to a SOCAN Rock Award, 2021 Indie Award and the 2021 JUNO Award for Rock Album of the Year for her debut album, Ruthless. It was the first time in 25 years that a woman took home that award, the last being Alanis Morrisette in 1996 for Jagged Little Pill.
In May 2021, JJ dropped her EP project WILDE, which featured #1 rock radio hits “Best Boy” and “Mercy”, alongside her new single “Off The Rails” which hit #2 on the Alternative chart in Canada. Featured prominently on Spotify’s billboards at Times Square in New York and Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto alongside significant global editorial support across the board, her profile continues to grow.
BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders described JJ as “a voice that commands the stage …. an undeniable rock star in the making.” She will put that to the test this Fall supporting The Record Company on their US tour before returning for her first tour of Canada supporting The Glorious Sons throughout the early months of 2022.

Canadian pop-rock singer and songwriter Suzie McNeil remains undeniable proof that a powerful voice will always have a stage.
Since her appearance as a contestant and fourth-place finisher on Rock Star: INXS in 2005, the Mississauga native has enjoyed a successful and diversified career both as a solo artist and in collaboration with a number of others, including INXS, Clay Aiken, Foreigner and Steven Tyler.
In the studio, she has recorded three albums – her 2007 debut album Broken & Beautiful, featuring charting singles Hung Up and Believe, earning her a Juno Award nomination in 2008 for Best New Artist of the Year. Subsequent albums Rock-n-Roller (2008) and Dear Love (2012) followed, the former spawning her top chart hit Supergirl, and the latter bringing McNeil more commercial success in the form of singles Drama Queen and Merry Go Round.
In addition to her Juno Award nomination, McNeil won a 2008 Independent Music Award as Favourite Pop Artist, and in the same year, was shortlisted for two Canadian Radio Music Awards.
Diversity has been the name of the game for McNeil, her varied musical pursuits including her multi-instrumental talents as a member of her own Nashville-based country-rock band, forays into the Broadway level musical theatre realm, and commercial jingle recording work.
Not one to stand still, McNeil has ventured into a number of new musical waters over her career, ranging from singing backing vocals for Pink on her North American tour to entertaining troops in Afghanistan to performing at the 2010 Winter Olympics closing ceremonies.
Fresh from performing in Las Vegas with Aerosmith during its residency at the Park MGM, McNeil now fronts The Chain Reaction, a nine-piece soul and R&B band that features new arrangements of many of her chart singles as well as new takes on classic hits.

With over 210 million global streams, JUNO Award-nominated, Valley put together alternative pop with the care, adventurousness, and personal touch of a handmade burned CD. They joined Lennon Stella and The Band CAMINO on sold out tours across North America and even picked up a 2020 JUNO Award nomination in the category of “Breakthrough Group of the Year.” Following 2020’s sucks to see you doing better EP, the single “Like 1999” exploded. Its genesis traces back to a TikTok post of an unfinished version. After Valley completed the tune in under 48 hours, it went on to inspire hundreds of thousands of creates and eclipse 20 million streams while breaking boarders, appearing on viral charts in the U.S., Philippines, Korea, Japan and more. After amassing over 100 million streams and earning acclaim from the likes of Atwood Magazine and American Songwriter, the group transmit this signature style through their latest EP Last Birthday for Universal Music Canada and new label partner Capitol Records. When The Eagles stopped to catch their breath a few decades ago, having sold over 100 million records, collected six Grammy’s, and enjoyed six #1 albums, Hotel California began a pioneering journey through their history-making music that has taken them around the globe and thrilled hundreds of thousands of Eagles fans. It’s been a journey they could never have imagined back in 1986, but their dedication, unique musical gifts, and an obsessive commitment to doing this legendary music true justice in performance, set them apart from the many Eagles bands that came after them. Hotel California toured relentlessly from the 80’s straight through to today, setting the standard for world-class tribute productions as they went, and sharing stages with the likes of The Doobie Bros., Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gretchen Wilson, REO Speedwagon, and many more. From Japan to Dubai, Toronto to Texas, Hotel California has boldly taken the tribute band where none had gone before them, and changed an industry’s collective mind about how good a “tribute” band could really be.
Today Hotel California continues to tour internationally, and their stage show has evolved into one of the most impressive and popular productions on the North American soft-seat and festival circuits. Featuring original members within their strongest lineup to date, the band is enjoying what they do today more than ever – and it sure sounds like it! It won’t take you long to hear why legions of Eagles fans come back to see them time after time, and the top venues & festivals have them back again and again. The easy-going warmth that comes from the band onstage exemplifies the Southern California sound of the 1970’s. The experience of a Hotel California show isn’t just about the band – it’s about celebrating the music and the memories, and the band gets the audiences involved and on their feet! Close your eyes and you’re right back there…
For any band to continually exceed such high expectations this deep into their career, and remain at the top of their field for as long as Hotel California have, is a truly remarkable accomplishment. That’s why when top talent buyers need the proven, absolute highest quality Eagles show in the world, they book the original Hotel California year after year.

The 36th summer season of Peterborough Musicfest continues Saturday, July 8 at Del Crary Park with multi award-‐winning Canadian blues guitarist and singer/songwriter Matt Andersen fronting his band The Big Bottle of Joy.
The New Brunswick native embarked on his music career more than 20 years ago and has since headlined at major festivals, clubs and theatres across North America, and in Europe and Australia. Along the way, he has shared the stage with the likes of Buddy Guy, Greg Allman and Serena Ryder to name but a few.
Music industry acclaim has been frequent and noteworthy. After winning two East Coast Music Association Awards in 2009, Andersen brought home top honours from the 2010 International Blues Challenge in Memphis – the first Canadian ever to do so. In 2013, and again in 2016, he won a European Blues Award for Best Solo/Acoustic Act. In addition, multiple Maple Blues Awards have come his way, and he has a Juno Award nomination to his credit.
Since self-‐releasing his debut album One Size Never Fits in 2004, Andersen hasn’t stopped writing and recording new music, amassing more 26 million YouTube streams and more than 23 million Spotify listens. His latest album, The Big Bottle of Joy, which he’s touring extensively across North American this year, features songs “infused with raw blues-‐rock, rollicking Americana, thoughtful folk and ecstatic gospel.” Peterborough Musicfest is funded by corporate sponsorships – most of those being locally owned businesses – multiple levels of government support, fundraising initiatives and private donations and, as a result, has been, and steadfastly remains, a uniquely free admission event. Dallas Green, Our Lady Peace, Serena Ryder, Gordon Lightfoot, 54-‐40 and Blue Rodeo are just a few of the sensational music acts that have appeared over the years.

The Spoons
40 Years of Spoons
Formed in 1980, an intrepid young band from Burlington Ontario would soon make Spoons a different kind of household word. They would help define the sound of pop and New Wave in the 80’s, with hits like Nova Heart, Romantic Traffic, Old Emotions and Tell No Lies.
Their album Arias & Symphonies would go on to be named one of the 20 Most Influential Albums of The 80’s by The Chart Magazine and their song Nova Heart was included in Bob Mersereau’s book The Top 100 Canadian Singles of All Time. Not bad for a bunch of kids from Burlington, Ontario.
Recently the Spoons celebrated their 40th anniversary with the release of two very special albums. Repeatable is a collection of all the hits and fan favourites from 1980-2020, available on CD and double vinyl. But the album Echoes, a collection of their songs re-recorded by artists from around the world (from England and Australia to the USA and Canada) is one of their proudest achievements. Whether stripped down or pushed to the limit, artists like Gowan, Alan Frew, When In Rome and Strange Advance cover Spoons songs in their own, undeniably personal and, sometimes very unexpected, way.
The retro 80s movement shows no signs of slowing down. Not one bit. And as far as Sandy, Gord and a lot of fans are concerned, that is a very good thing indeed.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, and raised in the Tropic of Canada, Lawrence Gowan enjoyed a lengthy and successful solo career with four Platinum and three Gold albums and one Gold single to his credit, prior to joining Styx in 1999 as keyboardist and one of their three lead vocalists.
At age 19, Gowan achieved an ARCT in classical piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
As a solo artist, he released six studio albums in the ’80s and ’90s, leading to a Best Of… greatest hits record in 1997. Gowan’s second album, Strange Animal (1985), was recorded at Tittenhurst Park in England, then the home of Ringo Starr and former home to John Lennon, who recorded his highly influential Imagine album (1971) in the same home studio. Strange Animal went triple platinum in Canada, and the video for “A Criminal Mind” (a song he continues to perform solo and also with Styx) won the Juno Award for Best Video of 1985.
Gowan albums have featured guest appearances from Jon Anderson of Yes, Alex Lifeson of Rush, Jerry Marotta and David Rhodes of Peter Gabriel, Tony Levin of Peter Gabriel and King Crimson, Robert Fripp of King Crimson, and John Sebastian of The Lovin’ Spoonful. In 1998, Gowan was invited to play his original piece “Healing Waters” with the BBC Orchestra at the opening of Princess Diana’s Memorial at her home in Althorp, England. Four of Gowan’s songs have been certified with SOCAN (ASCAP) Classic Awards, each having surpassed 100,000 spins on Canadian radio. In 2011 he was awarded a star on the Walk of Fame from his hometown of Scarborough, Toronto Canada.
As a member of Styx, Gowan has recorded four studio albums, three live DVDs/Blu-rays and toured the world over, playing more than 1,600 shows with the band. He continues to abide in the hope that the Gods of Rock will smile upon him for many years to come.

Peterborough Musicfest lifts the curtain on its 36th season on Saturday, July 1st, helping thousands celebrate Canada Day in energetic fashion by presenting the incomparable fiddle music duo of Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy. MacMaster, a native of Nova Scotia, and Leahy, lead fiddler for the famed musical family from Lakefield, married in 2002 and remain Canada’s reigning couple of Celtic music. Often performing with their musical children, they have been awarded numerous honours, including Juno and East Coast Music awards. MacMaster and Leahy have recorded just three albums together but quality over quantity holds true.
In 2015, their debut album One, produced by the legendary Bob Ezrin, was released. The following year saw the release of A Celtic Family Christmas. There things sat until earlier this year and the release of Canvas, which introduced rock, pop, Latin and classical influences to their trademark Celtic sound, featuring guest support from Rhiannon Giddens, Yo-Yo Ma and Brian Finnegan.

Dwayne Gretzky is a curated nostalgia trip that captures the unique joy of turning a radio dial and being surprised by the familiar. A 10+ peice juggernaut that brings to life the greatest songs of all time, this talented group of Toronto musicians ignites audiences with their charm, fidelity and theatrical flair. Celebrating classic pop and rock, from Fleetwood Mac to Fatboy Slim, Dwayne Gretzky has delivered electrifying renditions of over 600 songs.
Whether reinterpreting a classic in their latest recordings or playing one note-for-note at a live show, Dwayne Gretzky continues to shatter conventions and bring people together in a celebration of the songs we all forgot we loved.
Having first headlined Peterborough Musicfest in 2018, Dwayne Gretzky has since become a festival favourite, this show marking its fourth appearance on the Fred Anderson Stage.
Widely hailed as ‘Canada’s reigning champs of nostalgia,’ Dwayne Gretkzy transcends cover band status. The music collective’s performance of any one of the more than 700 classic songs in its catalogue not only showcases the abundant musical talents of each member but is also a thrill to experience. When all is said and done, Dwayne Gretzky is as much fun to watch as it is to listen to.
With a still growing and still fervent fan base, the buzz around Dwayne Gretzky was greatly bolstered by two marathon live-streamed shows on New Year’s Eve in 2020 and 2021 that allowed live music-starved viewers to enjoy a ‘night out’ in the pandemic-safe comfort of their homes. But as successful as those virtual shows were, the band’s curated nostalgia trips are best experienced live as the set list captures the unique joy of turning a radio dial and being surprised by the familiar.
We’re back! The Norwood Fair returns this fall … Thanksgiving weekend 2022!
Our theme this year is “Autumn Treasures”
Please join us in the picturesque village of Norwood, Ontario for the annual Norwood Fall Fair. The Norwood Fair was established back in the year 1868 as a place for area residents to display the fruits of their labours and to provide an opportunity for some friendly competition between friends and neighbours. The fair was also a community gathering where village folk came together to celebrate the harvest, catch up with each other and have a little fun for a couple of days.
The Norwood Fair has of course grown and evolved substantially in the last 150+ years, our mandate however has not changed, it is and always will be our mission to provide you and your family with a traditional country fair filled with lots of fun and excitement.
One ticket price at the gate covers entry to all fair events. Tickets to Midway rides may be purchased at the ticket booths on the carnival grounds.
Weekend passes are available at Hastings, Havelock and Norwood Home Hardware stores and at the Fair Office until the Saturday of the fair. Due to the large number of animals involved in our exhibits and attractions no pets are allowed on the fairgrounds.
Hours of Operation
In April 2023, quilled birch bark makaks made by women of Rice Lake Village (now Hiawatha First Nation) will arrive at the Peterborough Museum & Archives (PMA) for an extended loan visit from the Royal Collection Trust in England, where they have been cared for since they were given to the young Prince of Wales in 1860. The makaks will be exhibited and will be the focus of activities: workshops on quillwork, Michi Saagiig Anishnaabemowin, special tours of the exhibit, and some visits in which participants will be able to gently touch them.
Dr Lori Beavis (Hiawatha) and Dr Laura Peers curate the To Honour and Respect project, with a Planning Circle including Gimaakwe Laurie Carr (Hiawatha), Kim Muskratt (Hiawatha), Veronica King-Jamieson (Mississaugas of the Credit) and others. The project is funded by the Museum Assistance Program (Department of Canadian Heritage), Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, and Hiawatha First Nation, with in-kind contributions by the City of Peterborough and the Peterborough Museum & Archives, whose staff will care for the makaks during their visit. The Royal Collection Trust is lending the makaks.

Everyone knows that winter can be a long, dark and cold season – but with activities to occupy the mind and body, the season can move along quickly. Team sports provide entertainment to both those participating, and spectators too. Individual sports can give participants peace and health. Despite the shorter days and longer nights, there are many benefits when people can get out and play.
Get Out and Play was developed in-house at the Peterborough Museum & Archives, using artifacts, archival images, and stories from its collections. Visitors will see skates, skis, a toboggan, and other winter sport equipment from days past. People can learn about the origins of some of their favourite winter sports, as well as the context of these sports and clubs at a local level. It is easy to see how many of these cold-weather activities have remained popular pastimes among Canadians who are used to getting creative when the cold sets in.
The exhibit opens on Saturday, December 10, 2022 and will remain open until Sunday, March 19, 2023.
Admission is by donation. We look forward to seeing you!

Corn farmer zombies, known as the “Stalking Dead” were thought to have been cured last year but new discoveries have convinced officials that we are in for a 2nd wave. Local law enforcement recalled the same pharmaceutical company to develop a cure to these brain craving idiots. Research stations were again set up at ground zero, a farmer’s field surrounded in high voltage fencing to secure themselves from new beasts. Scientists were convinced they found a cure to this new outbreak but before securing the data into the mainframe computer, the containment area was breached by zombie livestock. The community has reached out to the public looking for volunteers to retrieve the data at the research stations and enter it into the central computer system. Their hope lies with you.

The pandemic emerged as Blackie and The Rodeo Kings marked their 25th anniversary as a band with the release of King of This Town. They plan to pick up right where they left off, writing and releasing more music and hitting the performance stage as often as possible. Originally, Colin Linden, Stephen Fearing and Tom Wilson came together to record what was supposed to be a one-off tribute album to the great Canadian songwriter Willie P. Bennett. The result was High or Hurtin’: The Songs of Willie P. Bennett. The band had no plans to make a subsequent album but something unanticipated happened.
Tom Wilson sums up the Blackie and The Rodeo Kings journey. “25 years later, we’re still digging in for the sweet spots. Making friends with the ghosts of poets and harmonizing with the voices in fields and swinging for the fences”

There are a lot of bands doing a tribute to the band Chicago, but back in the early 90’s, when Powerhouse decided to put together their Chicago Transit tribute act, they were the first in the world to do so. And they remain today as the longest running Chicago tribute band and the only one to carry four lead vocalists, just as the band Chicago does.
The bands’ 5 singers, 4 of which are lead singers, the 3-piece horn section and the 5 piece rhythm section, made this show a natural for the band – even getting credit from the band Chicago themselves, back in the 90’s.
In twenty-five years, the band, based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada has performed their show at Festivals, Theatres, Casinos and various other venues from as far east as the Gatineau Hills in Quebec to the USA Midwest – including Chicago, Illinois, itself.
The band, with its three piece horn section, five piece rhythm section and four lead vocalists is able to cover all the Chicago material from the early horn- dominant classics like ‘Make Me Smile’, ’25 or 6 to 4’ and ‘Saturday in the Park’ to the later, softer, keyboard-oriented ballads like ‘If You Leave Me Now’.

Sex Dalmatian is an evening-length dance theatre glam drama. It follows a fiercely careerist anthropomorphized talking dog named Sex Dalmatian. Created by the award winning, critically acclaimed Toronto-based absurdist dance company Rock Bottom Movement, the show is built with a strong feminist perspective and a playful tone. Sex Dalmatian places heavy feelings into bizarre containers, shining a humorous light on some of the darker corners of the collective consciousness.
“Rock Bottom Movement and its artistic director, Alyssa Martin, are the quirky weirdos of Toronto’s dance/theatre world that you can’t help but be drawn toward.” – Carly Maga, Toronto Star

This efficient method of commerce (ie. producer, direct to consumer) has gained much interest in recent years as small businesses have grown. We at the Peterborough Farmers’ Market are proud to be part of this popular phenomenon.
As producers of local food and crafts, we stress freshness, quality and value as we deal each and every week with our market patrons. Come and enjoy this traditional shopping experience.

Jethro Tull’s Martin Barre Aqualung 50th Anniversary Tour with Original Band Member, Clive Bunker.
Introduction…
In 1969, a band of four English musicians arrived in New York and literally took America by storm. Over the next 50 years, this legendary band accumulated over 65 million record sales and a following of loyal fans that are the envy of rock bands worldwide! This band was Jethro Tull.
Aqualung, probably the most famous and celebrated of all of Jethro Tull’s albums, is now celebrating 50 years since its release in 1971. At the centre of Tull’s unique sound is guitarist Martin Barre, who is renowned for his formidable mastery of historic riffs, power chords and soaring melodic solos.
Martin is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of the iconic and legendary album Aqualung with a worldwide tour throughout 2021. Territories will include South America, USA, Canada and Europe.. He will be bringing a spectacular show playing the album in its entirety with his touring band The Martin Barre Band – featuring Dan Crisp on lead vocals, Alan Thomson on keyboard, and Darby Todd on drums; together with former Jethro Tull band member Clive Bunker on drums and percussion.
Martin says: “Aqualung was the album that defined Tull. Sumptuous melodies, big dynamics and power riffs galore. Acoustic met electric…and it all worked.”
The anniversary tour will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to sit back and relive this legendary album, being played in full and in sequence for the first time.
About Martin Barre:
Martin Barre was Jethro Tull’s guitarist for over 43 years. His sound and playing was a major factor in their success. Album sales have exceeded 60 million units and they continue to be played worldwide, representing an important part of classic rock history.
Martin’s guitar playing has earned him a high level of respect and recognition. His solos were voted 25th best solo ever in the USA and 20th best solo ever in the UK for his playing on ‘Aqualung’ . His playing on the album ‘Crest of a Knave’ earned him a Grammy award in 1989.
As well as numerous Jethro Tull albums, Martin has worked with many other artists including Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Gary Moore, Joe Bonamassa and Chris Thompson and has shared the stage with such legends as Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin.
About Special Guest:
Clive Bunker – was the original drummer with Tull and played on Stand Up, Benefit & Aqualung he was part of the original band that stormed the USA from 1969

English Paper Piecing (EPP) is the answer and whether you are an experienced sewer or a complete beginner, this workshop will introduce you to a highly accessible approach to designing and piecing your own patchwork projects.
In keeping with the traditional hand tool approach to stone carving shared by visiting Shona artists at Rice Lake Gallery, we are pleased to offer two workshops led by experienced art educator, Miriam Davidson. The act of making garments by hand, one by one, each time with a wearer in mind, is an act of devotion. When the intended is no longer living, this may seem an impractical gift. What it does, is hold space for their imagined lives, a place in which to put the energies of grief and hope. Each stitch is a reverential gesture; an offering; a product of care. The threads of Ghost Seamstress wind through histories, literature, domesticity, nostalgia, and labour to consider the lives of women and girls.
Michèle Karch-Ackerman is a nationally recognized contemporary artist whose installations are known for inspiring viewers with their provocative and touching subject matter. For over thirty years her artistic practice has involved the devotional act of sewing clothing. Karch-Ackerman is an installation artist drawn to domestic, traditionally feminine, work: embroidery, needlepoint, knitting, dress and doll-making. Her work considers the dead, the forgotten, and the hurting.

On December 10 the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra returns to the Showplace stage with a beloved local tradition, our Holiday Concert.
A delight for the whole family, this concert is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. We have really missed sharing this with the community over the last few years, and are thrilled to once again be able to gather together to celebrate the season.
PSO Music Director Michael Newnham says,
“Our Holiday concerts are very special. Geared to the entire family, we find a way of mixing the traditional with the popular. It’s a way of celebrating the season through sparkling, melodic and upbeat music anywhere from Tchaikovsky and the “Waltz King” Johann Strauss, to brilliant pop arrangements of familiar tunes and carols. You will hear the entire PSO in all its sumptuous glory.
This year, we are extremely fortunate to be joined by one of Canada’s vocal treasures, baritone James Westman. Mr. Westman’s career has taken him to opera houses and orchestras around the world, where he has made huge connections with audiences.
This will be a concert you and your family will not want to miss.”

The season of Yule, originally a twelve-day festival marking the winter solstice and celebrated by northern European peoples, has given us many traditions we still share worldwide at Christmas: the tree, wreaths, feasting, and gathering with family and friends to celebrate a significant event in the year. Of course, music is a significant part of any celebration. This season of emergence from dark, difficult times into the light, of giving and receiving, of love and family, has inspired many writers and composers for over a thousand years. The Peterborough Singers continue their tradition of initiating the season with various choral selections, along with the mighty organ and brass, and with a chance, for you to sing along and get into the spirit of Yuletide Cheer!
With guests ‘Venabrass’ brass quintet. Tickets are $35 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the door or on our website www.peterboroughsingers.com

It’s been over two years since the pandemic and The Bowie Lives sold out the Market Hall performance on January 10th, 2020, and they are excited to resume touring and return to Market Hall on Sept. 17, 2022!
“5 Stars! Unbelievable!” says Richard Crouse, Host of CTV PopLife.
“By far, the best & coolest Bowie Tribute I’ve seen!” says Sam Grosso, Cadillac Productions, Toronto Ontario.
They’re talking about “The Bowie Lives” Canada’s most sensational Bowie Spectacular! Michael Bell is an award-winning vocalist who channels the sound and styles of David Bowie, and with the help of an all-star band, venue, and costumes to capture the imagination of fans young and old.
The love of Bowie began as a teen and then, later on, Michael created his first theatrical production called “ChangesAllBowie” which toured the “A circuit” in the ’80s. He hung up his “Ziggy” in the early ’90s and never imagined professionally performing Bowie again! However, after David’s untimely death on January 10, 2016, his calling returned, as did the industry interest. Contacting long-time musical director Michael Beauclerc, they began auditioning players to fill out a band capable of performing some of rock’s most challenging material. The Bowie Lives bring all the hits to the stage spanning 4 decades deep from Space Oddity to Lazarus, and everything in between.
The Bowie Lives, pre-show includes the Bowie Bazaar; collectibles bought and sold, put on Bowie make-up and costume props to help you get your Bowie on plus photo opportunities and so much more!
Come in costume dressed as your favorite David Bowie persona! Fun for all ages.
Michael is also the subject of an upcoming documentary film Being David Bowie slated for release in 2022.
Put on your red shoes and dance the blues!

The literal translation of Mashiach or messiah is “anointed”. Anointing is a ritual of consecrating something or someone with holy oil. For many, the ritual of attending our annual performance of The Messiah is a way to embrace and absorb the sacred story of the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. For others, the ritual creates a sacred space for the solo human voice, for inspired choruses, for the sounds and the ancient words of a 280-year-old tradition. For others who may attend The Messiah for the first time, we hope that you will be blessed by the energy, poignancy, and glory of this music.
The Peterborough Singers present a 280-year-old tradition of inspired choruses and solo voices. With special guests Shannon McCracken (soprano), Martina Myskohlid (mezzo), Jacob Abrahamse (tenor), Alex Halliday (bass), Ian Sadler (organ), Paul Otway and Doug Sutherland (trumpets). Directed by Syd Birrell. Tickets are available at the door. Masks are required at this concert.
Generously sponsored by Westland Insurance.
The Mavericks, the eclectic rock and country group known for crisscrossing musical boundaries with abandon, has gone through three distinct phases since it was founded in Miami in 1989. An initial period of heady success marked by big hits and critical acclaim in the ‘90s. A long hiatus starting 2003 when the musicians each went their own way. And finally, a triumphant reunion in 2012 which held long enough for them to recently celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary. Now, The Mavericks have ushered in the fourth phase of their evolution with the #1Billboard debut of their first-ever, all Spanish album, En Español, released on the band’s own Mono Mundo label. Although all 12 tracks are in Spanish, as the title suggests, the collection represents a diversity of musical styles and cultural traditions, from tender boleros to brassy mariachi to reimagined Afro-Cuban classics. Seven of the tunes are familiar gems drawn from the vast Latin American songbook, while five are originals written or co-written by Malo. Like the band’s entire body of music, this one album cannot be boxed into a single category. The songs are as diverse as Latin America itself, and as cohesive as the ideal of the American melting pot. To season this rich musical paella, The Mavericks add their signature country/rock/Tex-Mex

Artspace Peterborough is excited to present Manar Moursi: The Loudspeaker and the Tower, organized and circulated by Trinity Square Video and SAVAC.
Through an immersive environment constructed of coloured lights, megaphones, masks, videos and sculptures, Toronto-and Boston-based artist, designer, and architect Manar Moursi presents a multitude of considerations to the viewer: What if singular patriarchal voices of religious sermons were interpreted through mime and dance? How would neon lights adorning mosque minarets look as sculptural objects? How do residents of Cairo challenge authoritative architectures and urban master plans, whilst creating new meanings for public space and land use? By that token, what shapes can we abstract from these biographical networks of the megalopolis?
Using the mosque as its starting point, The Loudspeaker and the Tower examines the apparatus of the minaret as a vertical symbol of power and as a horizontal multiplier of official and unsanctioned narratives. Moursi’s installation revolves around a set of associated characters — residents of once agricultural lands, mosque custodians, imams, architects, artists, and a parrot — to further understand the radical complexities of these structures.
The exhibit is organized and circulated by Trinity Square Video and SAVAC with support from Ontario Arts Council.

Our most fundamental questions—about how to exist in this world we share, and how best to love the people we love—so often keep us awake at the end of the day, at a loss for answers. From the plaintive opening notes of David Myles’ It’s Only a Little Loneliness, the New Brunswick-based songwriter testifies that he’s no exception: “I could try to explain what goes on in my brain, but I’d have to pretend that I knew,” he sings on “Certain.” On his introspective 15th studio album, Myles establishes himself as a seeker—of paths, of new sonic expressions, of God. Concrete answers, however, elude him the same as they elude the rest of us. All of that seeking reveals one clear conclusion, though: we are bound to each other. “But it’s late at night, and I’m reaching for the light,” he continues over soft, arpeggiated guitar on the album’s opening track. “And I want to spend my whole life with you.”
“It’s the kind of thing you say to yourself when you’re feeling a bit down: ‘It’s only a little loneliness,’” Myles says about the album’s title on a drive through northern New Brunswick. “But then at the same time, you know—it’s actually quite a big thing. It’s overwhelming. You try to tell yourself it’s not a big deal but it feels quite fundamental. And you realize, ‘I need people. I need a community. I need my friends. I need my family.”

This January/February you have the exciting opportunity to attend the Peterborough Theatre Guild’s production of The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller. A 1953 Tony award-winning best play; an ode to courage and conscience; a rebuke of lying and tyranny; a tender love story; a cautionary tale.
Miller, one of America’s most celebrated playwrights, used the historical Salem, Massachusetts’ witch trials as an analogy for the political turmoil of his time, when the House Un-American Activities Committee held its infamous Communist “witch” hunts. However, this compelling drama still resonates in our social/political climate today. Bringing it closer to our time, you will see it set in the 1930’s on the Guild’s stage.
The Crucible is directed by Jane Werger, produced by Linda Conway and Elaine Orgill, and brought to life by an 18-member cast. Show dates are Jan. 20, 21, 22M / 26, 27, 28, 29M / Feb. 2, 3, 4. Tickets are available on line – peterboroughtheatreguild.com – or by calling the box office ( 705 745-4211).

THE BOWIE LIVES: Canada’s Most Spectacular Tribute to David Bowie performs in Peterborough on October 21, 2023, at 8PM. Showplace Performance Centre at 290 George St N. TICKETS: On Sale Now https://secure1.tixhub.com/showplace/online/b_otix.asp?cboPerformances=96&cboEvent=72 The Bowie Lives is excited to be returning to Peterborough once again!
So what is “The Bowie Lives?” Perhaps this email from an audience member best sums it up… “Saw the show last night in Midland and was blown away. Was a little apprehensive at first as I have been a Bowie fan since I was a teen and I was concerned the band may not do the songs justice. I was overwhelmingly thrilled at what I heard and saw, from the first note I was hooked. The biggest takeaway is you can tell the lead singer is truly a devoted fan himself. Loved the way you honored David Bowie. Hope to see you in Collingwood!”
The industry thinks so too… “5 Stars! Unbelievable! I could have watched them for two more hours!” says Richard Crouse, Host of CTV PopLife.
“By far, the best & coolest Bowie Tribute I’ve seen!” says Sam Grosso, Cadillac Productions.
“As close as it gets!” says MusikMirage.com
They’re all talking about the “The Bowie Lives” Canada’s most Spectacular Tribute to David Bowie! Michael Bell is an award-winning vocalist who channels the sound and styles of David Bowie, and with the help of an all-star band, multi-media, theatre, and costumes, he has captured the imagination of fans young and old.
Michael discovered Bowie as a teen and performed songs with a number of his early bands. By the 80’s his first theatrical production “ChangesAllBowie” toured the “A circuit” before hanging up his “Ziggy” in the early ’90s. Decades passed. After David’s untimely death on January 10, 2016, Michael’s calling returned; his calling to honor the man who helped shape his life. Together with musical director Michael Beauclerc, they began auditioning players to fill out a band capable of performing some of Rock’s most challenging material. The Bowie Lives bring all the hits to the stage, from Space Oddity to Lazarus, and everything in between.
The Bowie Lives PRE-SHOW includes the Bowie Bazaar; T-shirts, collectibles, LP’s and DVDs, and more.
Come dressed as your favorite David Bowie persona, or wear your favorite swag and be rewarded! Don’t forget to grab a button!
Michael is also the subject of an upcoming documentary film “Being David Bowie” and an upcoming web series “The Bowie Lives.”

EFF MARTIN CANADIAN SOLO TOUR 2023
With special guest Jack Bratt
It’s been a long time coming for our Canadian friends… Jeff Martin will be performing a handful of intimate solo shows in Eastern Canada in early 2023.
Across two sets each night, Jeff will perform benchmark songs from his career and provide insights and stories from behind the music and lyrics.
The evening’s first set will showcase songs from Jeff’s now legendary debut solo record ‘Exile and The Kingdom’, some of which had not been performed live for fifteen years prior to the recent Australian tour dates.
The second set delves deep across Jeff’s other releases, taking in his personal favourites and classics for good measure.
A night not to be missed for any Jeff Martin fan.
OUFF from Montreal transdisciplinary artist Alexis O’Hara. Tackling themes of white privilege, late capitalism and perimenopause with humour and a disconcerting honesty, O’Hara and her collaborator/designer Atom Cianfarani have created a true spectacle in which a solitary but fragmented femme negotiates her role, as victim and victor, pawn and princess in a commodity-crazed-brink-of-collapse world propped up by the violent dominance of whiteness.
“Set in an unsafe place between satire, observational comedy, and scathing social commentary, OUFF makes us laugh, contemplate and cringe a little as an audience, not quite sure we’re in on the joke or even want to hear the kernels of truth that make it work.” – Robyn Fadden writing for the culture website Bible Urbaine.

The Anishinaabe of Grassy Narrows are resilient. They are stitching their fractured landscapes back together from the impact of mercury poisoning. Using dance, movement, sound, and storytelling, the Dora-award winning Waawaate Fobister embodies Omaagomaan, a two-spirit being, and a manifestation of the earth and man-made poisons that have seeped into the earth’s crust. A fierce shape-shifter inspired by Anishinaabeg worldview and cosmologies, Omaagomaan forces us to reckon with the ways the maanaadizi (ugly) and the onishishin (beautiful) collide.
“Fobister is a magnetic performer, and his storytelling and characterizations are richly textured.” -Kathleen Oliver, The Georgia Straight
“Fobister is a dynamic, engaging performer, and you owe it to yourself to listen to their story.” -Mooney on Theatre

Pauline Johnson was a trailblazing heroine, proud Mohawk poet and performer during the late 1800s. The daughter of a respected Six Nations Mohawk Chief, and an English mother, Pauline embraced her heritage and fiercely challenged the stereotypes of women and First Nations Peoples. Her powerful story is brought to life in Paddle Song, a one-woman musical theatre performance by Cheri Maracle, that captures the heart and journey of young Pauline.
Paddle Song is an energetic, humorous, one-woman musical that tells the story of Pauline Johnson, the celebrated late 1800’s trailblazing Mohawk poet who toured North America and Great Britain with her poetry at a time when such a thing was unheard of. Starring Cheri Maracle, and created by Dinah Christie and Tom Hill, Paddle Song was nominated for Best Solo Performance at The High Performance Rodeo, Calgary’s International Festival of the Arts (2016), and has since toured Canada and the world, with stops in New Delhi and Norway.
The daughter of a respected Six Nations Mohawk Chief, and an English mother, Pauline embraced her heritage and fiercely challenged the stereotypes of women, and Native peoples within her work. She fearlessly toured the world with her unique stage show for over 30 years, and was published and hailed by the literati in England at a time when the literary world was ruled by white men.
Her powerful story is brought to life by the veteran Indigenous actor and musician Cheri Maracle. Maracle has performed on stages and screens across Turtle Island and abroad for the last 25 years, including numerous appearances as Pauline Johnson. In Paddle Song she captures the heart and journey of Pauline, first canoeing at home on the Grand River, her promising career just beginning, then earning her place on stages across Canada, the United States and Great Britain. Pauline endlessly fought for equality, acceptance, and respect as an Indigenous woman performer in a man’s literary world. Paddle Song reflects the legacy Pauline carved out; an unparalleled mixed-blood persona that would influence Native Performers, and audiences, for decades to come.
“… filled with beautiful music and movement…the story reveals itself most compellingly through the dramatic performance…” -Marion Devries, Artistic Director, The Blythe Festival
Cheri Maracle is a multi-award nominated Actor/Singer/Songwriter from the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, Ontario. Irish was born in Ireland and now resides in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. “This Island creates music and musicians, art and artists. I found a shift to take things more seriously when I moved here.” And she did just that.
Her latest release, Little Bones, gained her recognition around the globe, including a 2020 JUNO nomination for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year, seven Music PEI 2020 nominations, including Album of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, and SOCAN Songwriter of the Year, and a Canadian Folk Music Nomination for Solo Artist of the Year. Her previous self-titled album, Irish Mythen, garnered awards and nominations from Music PEI, East Coast Music Association, Folk Alliance International and SOCAN.
Write-ups in Australian Guitar Magazine, Rollingstone and a plethora of other print and online media world wide have helped plant Irish firmly on the map of Must-See Artists. Irish’s live performances are a thing of raw power, emotion and a connection with her audience that just has to be seen to be believed.

The Bros. Landreth welcome a new day with Come Morning, an album that marks both a rebirth and refinement of the JUNO-winning band’s blend of North American roots music and harmony-heavy soul.
The most immersive, emotive record of the Landreths’ career, Come Morning finds brothers Joey and Dave lacing their melody-driven songs with layers of atmospheric synth, organ, and textured guitar. The group’s previous albums shone a light on their strength as a live act, capturing the spontaneity and sonic stomp of a band of hard-touring road warriors. If those records unfolded like snapshots of The Bros. Landreth’s nighttime shows, then Come Morning sketches a markedly different picture, showcasing the introspection and clarity that comes with a long period of rest.
