Heritage Haunts – Fall Drive
Enjoy the colours of fall by beginning your journey at the renowned Elmhirst’s Resort on Rice Lake, check-in to begin your Heritage Haunts Getaway. After getting settled in, head over to the award winning living history museum Lang Pioneer Village. With over 25 historic buildings, costumed interpreters, and hands-on activities, this quaint village will take you back in time. Throughout autumn there are several special events and celebrations to fit into your visit, including a spooky Historic Halloween’s Eve, Pioneer Corn Roast, Applefest or the Keene Pumpkin festival.
Another incredible historic site within the Peterborough area is the largest hydraulic lift lock in the world at Lock 21 – Peterborough Lift Lock. Take in this colourful view among the leaves, or bundle up for a picturesque picnic. Fall festivities continue at Hutchison House Museum, one of the oldest limestone houses in Peterborough built for Dr. John Hutchison in 1837. This getaway would not be complete without a stop at Craftworks at the Barn, which offers the largest crafters marketplace in Ontario, showcasing over 100 local and area artisans. If your trip allows, make sure to have a hand to hold, as you may get spooked by the ghostly tales an Eerie Ashburnham Ghost Walk or a Haunted Carriage Ride with Trent Valley Archives.
