The courses are stunning, staff are warm and welcoming, and there are plenty of great memorable moments along the way.
Whether you like to putter around or consider yourself semi-pro, with more than a dozen courses that are affordable and accessible to a range of skill levels, this is an ideal moment to power down your screens, step away from big city stress – and take a breath of fresh air on our fairways and golf greens. We think it might just bring out the best in your game.
Better still, some are associated with lakeside lodges and local hotels, and tempt golfers with special overnight stay-and-play packages. As a local golfer once explained to us, “No matter what anyone scores, there’s no such thing as a bad day when you’re golfing” – here are some gems that you will want to tee up:
Six Foot Bay Resort
Stay out of the bunker, but tuck in for an overnight here. At Six Foot Bay Resort you can make a week or a weekend out of your golfing escape. Book a cottage and enjoy beautiful greens and fairways by day, and scenic lake views by night. They also boast some incredible amenities including a pool that might have you think you are a little further south than central Ontario, and a restaurant teeming with hockey memorabilia (our favourite table is the booth that has been made from a converted golf cart).
With a little something for everyone, Elmhirst’s Resort offers experiences that golfers will want to tee up as part of their escape. Take a day to enjoy the scenic views of Rice Lake and enjoy some great golf at Bellmere Winds right next door.
Kawartha Golf & Country Club
It’s one of the top golf courses in Canada, and available for their members and the public alike. Kawartha Golf & Country Club is well-equipped with a PGA of Canada Pro (Mark Ahrens) and is well-known for their annual events including their catered theme nights, and of course the Kawartha Invitational where amateurs tee off alongside well-known Canadian golfers.
