DESCRIPTION:Looking for fun creative activities for children this March Break? Hutchison House hosts a variety of fun crafts and activities over the spring break. Day camps will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on March 8th\, 11th\, 12th\, 13th and 14th. Suitable for children aged 6 to 12. Please make sure to bring a peanut-free snack and indoor shoes. DESCRIPTION:As the Art Gallery of Peterborough enters its 50th anniversary year in 2024\, we are digging into our archives and reconnecting with our founders to engage with our past. Looking through old photographs and archives offers us a chance to marvel at where we’ve been and where we’ve come from; at what has changed and what remains. Sifting through filing cabinets packed with layers of paperwork\, notes\, and images feels a bit like an archeological dig. We make careful work of it\, pausing when we unearth something precious\, like a handwritten letter on fine paper or a photograph with younger versions of familiar faces. \nThis juried exhibition invited artists to submit original works of art that resonate with themes of legacy\, archives\, nostalgia\, ghosts\, memory\, survival\, and growth. \nTree rings and stratified rock mark the passage of time and changing conditions\, like layers of once fashionable wallpaper. The strata of our lives can be studied and excavated\, unleashing seams of joy\, curiosity\, wonder\, or grief. Throughout three ramps and the main gallery\, works by fifty-five artists bring forward the findings of their own excavations.

DESCRIPTION:For ages 7 and up\, a perfect educational and unique arts activity for your March Break! \nIn this introductory workshop we will learn about looms and play with weaving techniques. Weaving has a rich history throughout all cultures\, and is something we often don’t realize plays a huge part in everyday life! \nWe will explore the mechanics of several weaving methods. Our first activity will be to create a small woven sample on a cardboard loom. Then we will explore the Inkle loom\, used for weaving  thin strips of material and bands. Lastly\, there will be table looms set up for everyone to try their hand at. \nWe endeavor to use easy to source materials in our activities so participants can continue practicing even after the class if they so wish. \nThis class is $30 per registrant. All materials are included. The class is 3 hours long and instructed by Weavers’ and Spinners’ guild member Julia.
