SUMMARY:Peterborough's Dragon Boat Festival
DESCRIPTION:Get Back in the Boat on June 11th\, 2022!\nDragon Boat Races\, Vendor Village\, Kids Fun Zone\, Beer Garden and much more! Participate\, come shopping\, play games or enjoy some time in our Thirsty Dragon!\nPeterborough’s Dragon Boat Festival has been a community staple event for over 20 years. We’ve had the same goal since day one: to make sure that women and men from across our region have access to the tests and treatments that could save their lives\, right here in our community. \nEveryone participating in the Festival has a story – a way in which their own life\, or the life of a friend\, colleague or loved one has been touched by breast cancer or cancer – we encourage everyone to get involved\, whether it be as a volunteer\, a sponsor or a participant. \nThat’s why we raise money to help fund world-class breast and other cancer screening\, diagnosis and treatment at Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC). \nTo date\, the Festival had raised more than $3.7 million! \nWe’re beyond excited to #GetBackInTheBoat and see you at our 21st Festival on June 11\, 2022!

SUMMARY:Ghost Seamstress | Michèle Karch-Ackerman
DESCRIPTION:The act of making garments by hand\, one by one\, each time with a wearer in mind\, is an act of devotion. When the intended is no longer living\, this may seem an impractical gift. What it does\, is hold space for their imagined lives\, a place in which to put the energies of grief and hope. Each stitch is a reverential gesture; an offering; a product of care. The threads of Ghost Seamstress wind through histories\, literature\, domesticity\, nostalgia\, and labour to consider the lives of women and girls. \nMichèle Karch-Ackerman is a nationally recognized contemporary artist whose installations are known for inspiring viewers with their provocative and touching subject matter. For over thirty years her artistic practice has involved the devotional act of sewing clothing. Karch-Ackerman is an installation artist drawn to domestic\, traditionally feminine\, work: embroidery\, needlepoint\, knitting\, dress and doll-making. Her work considers the dead\, the forgotten\, and the hurting.

SUMMARY:Laura Madera | Nocturnal Garden
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss the solo exhibition: Laura Madera\, Nocturnal Garden at the Art Gallery of Peterborough. This show has been extended until June 12\, 2022. \nLaura Madera’s Nocturnal Garden brings together a body of paintings in a luminous symphony\, offering new ways of noticing the ephemeral coming together of light and air amplified on botanical silhouettes. She received her BFA from Emily Carr University\, BC\, and an MFA from the University of Guelph\, ON. Her practice explores the potential of watercolour as a means to poetically investigate phenomena within a contemporary context. Madera’s studio is located in Peterborough\, ON\, on Treaty 20 and in the traditional territory of the Mississauga Anishinaabeg.
