SUMMARY:Stories\, Songs & Santa Causes (ft. Tom Jackson)
DESCRIPTION:Tom Jackson kickstarts the holiday season with grace\, style\, and quirky festivity that many have enjoyed for decades. Expect an evening of original music\, sing-along tunes\, and signature Christmas music from this master storyteller. Stories\, Songs and Santa Causes also features BC Country Music Association Hall-of-Fame producer\, Tom McKillip; and award-winning producer/multi-instrumentalist\, John MacArthur Ellis. SUMMARY:BLACKIE AND THE RODEO KINGS
DESCRIPTION:The pandemic emerged as Blackie and The Rodeo Kings marked their 25th anniversary as a band with the release of King of This Town. They plan to pick up right where they left off\, writing and releasing more music and hitting the performance stage as often as possible. Originally\, Colin Linden\, Stephen Fearing and Tom Wilson came together to record what was supposed to\nbe a one-off tribute album to the great Canadian songwriter Willie P. Bennett. The result was High or Hurtin’: The Songs of Willie P. Bennett. The band had no plans to make a subsequent album but something unanticipated happened. \nTom Wilson sums up the Blackie and The Rodeo Kings journey. “25 years later\, we’re still digging in for the sweet spots. Making friends with the ghosts of poets and harmonizing with the voices in fields and swinging for the fences”

SUMMARY:Get Out and Play: Winter Sports in Peterborough
DESCRIPTION:On exhibition December 10\, 2022 to March 19\, 2023\nEveryone knows that winter can be a long\, dark and cold season – but with activities to occupy the mind and body\, the season can move along quickly. Team sports provide entertainment to both those participating\, and spectators too. Individual sports can give participants peace and health. Despite the shorter days and longer nights\, there are many benefits when people can get out and play. \nGet Out and Play was developed in-house at the Peterborough Museum & Archives\, using artifacts\, archival images\, and stories from its collections. Visitors will see skates\, skis\, a toboggan\, and other winter sport equipment from days past. People can learn about the origins of some of their favourite winter sports\, as well as the context of these sports and clubs at a local level. It is easy to see how many of these cold-weather activities have remained popular pastimes among Canadians who are used to getting creative when the cold sets in. \nThe exhibit opens on Saturday\, December 10\, 2022 and will remain open until Sunday\, March 19\, 2023. \nAdmission is by donation. We look forward to seeing you!

SUMMARY:Peterborough Symphony Orchestra: A Holiday Welcome
DESCRIPTION:On December 10 the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra returns to the Showplace stage with a beloved local tradition\, our Holiday Concert. \nA delight for the whole family\, this concert is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. We have really missed sharing this with the community over the last few years\, and are thrilled to once again be able to gather together to celebrate the season. \nPSO Music Director Michael Newnham says\, \n“Our Holiday concerts are very special. Geared to the entire family\, we find a way of mixing the traditional with the popular. It’s a way of celebrating the season through sparkling\, melodic and upbeat music anywhere from Tchaikovsky and the “Waltz King” Johann Strauss\, to brilliant pop arrangements of familiar tunes and carols. You will hear the entire PSO in all its sumptuous glory. \nThis year\, we are extremely fortunate to be joined by one of Canada’s vocal treasures\, baritone James Westman. Mr. Westman’s career has taken him to opera houses and orchestras around the world\, where he has made huge connections with audiences. \nThis will be a concert you and your family will not want to miss.” \nMore information is available at www.thepso.org \nAll performances are at 7:30 pm and take place at Showplace Performance Centre\, Peterborough \nTickets available at www.showplace.org. \nFor more information\, please contact: Lee Bolton\, General Manager \nPeterborough Symphony Orchestra  705-742-1992 \nadmin@thepso.org

SUMMARY:Handel's "Messiah"
DESCRIPTION:The literal translation of Mashiach or messiah is “anointed”. Anointing is a ritual of consecrating something or someone with holy oil. For many\, the ritual of attending our annual performance of The Messiah is a way to embrace and absorb the sacred story of the birth\, death\, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. For others\, the ritual creates a sacred space for the solo human voice\, for inspired choruses\, for the sounds and the ancient words of a 280-year-old tradition. For others who may attend The Messiah for the first time\, we hope that you will be blessed by the energy\, poignancy\, and glory of this music. \nThe Peterborough Singers present a 280-year-old tradition of inspired choruses and solo voices. With special guests Shannon McCracken (soprano)\, Martina Myskohlid (mezzo)\, Jacob Abrahamse (tenor)\, Alex Halliday (bass)\, Ian Sadler (organ)\, Paul Otway and Doug Sutherland (trumpets). Directed by Syd Birrell. Tickets are available at the door. Masks are required at this concert. \nGenerously sponsored by Westland Insurance.

SUMMARY:Hogmanay
DESCRIPTION:One of the biggest changes to the Hutchison House event line up is our popular annual Hogmanay event. Unfortunately despite several options presented\, a variety of factors\, including ongoing road construction\, will once again prevent us from hosting our annual Hogmanay event in person. Hutchison House volunteers will be creating Hogmany meals-to-go with much of the food that we would normally serve here on January first. You must pre-order your meals by December 28\, 2022. Meals will be available for curbside pick-up between 12pm and 2pm on January 1\, 2023. Meals are $20 and will include: a Scotch egg\, tatters and neeps\, oatcakes\, cheese\, a sample of potted salmon\, shortbread and clootie dumpling. For an extra $5 you can also get a piece of Haggis.\nFor more information or to order a Hogmanay meal to go please contact the museum at 705-743-9710 or info@hutchisonhouse.ca.

SUMMARY:Peterborough Farmers' Market
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to listen to the sounds of our local musicians while visiting our 100+ vendor outdoor market May 1 to October 31\, rain or shine in the Morrow Building parking lot. From November 1 to April 30\, we are located inside the Morrow Building just south of the parking lot. \nThe establishment of a central market area for individual trade or sales has been a feature of societies all over the world for centuries. This trade has taken place in Peterborough for the past 190 years. This efficient method of commerce (ie. producer\, direct to consumer) has gained much interest in recent years as small businesses have grown. We at the Peterborough Farmers’ Market are proud to be part of this popular phenomenon. \nAs producers of local food and crafts\, we stress freshness\, quality and value as we deal each and every week with our market patrons. Come and enjoy this traditional shopping experience.
