Be delighted by the traditional dancing\, singing and drumming. Join in the intertribal dances. Embrace this celebration! Admission fees are as follows: ages 0-6 are  free\, ages 7 – 12  are $5\, ages 13 – 59 are $8\, and 60 years and over are free. SUMMARY:Cathedral Precinct Historical Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Trent Valley Archives presents a brand-new walking tour \, Cathedral Precinct\, that focuses on the area bounded by Park & Stewart Streets\, and Murray & Hunter Streets. The block between Rubidge and Reid deserves special consideration because of its three churches and the intertwined history of the nearby buildings. \nThere are also numerous area houses which will be profiled on the tour. Fine vintage stone dwellings such as Hutchison House\, the Eastland House and the Ridley House will be described as are the Queen Anne-style house on Stewart St. and the Second Empire duplex with its mansard roof which sits across the street. Of particular interest will be the Strickland House on Hunter and Downie Sts. \nThe “Cathedral Precinct” tour will begin and end at the Eastland House\, at Hunter and Stewart. Elwood Jones\, TVA’s archivist will lead the tour assisted by Don Willcock\, noted historian and raconteur. \nTVA takes the safety of our attendees and volunteer guides very seriously by adhering to appropriate physical distancing throughout the tour. While everyone is welcome\, we encourage you to enjoy the tours with members of your circle. This tour runs rain or shine\, so please dress appropriately for the weather. \n

SUMMARY:The Mavericks
DESCRIPTION:The Mavericks\, the eclectic rock and country group known for crisscrossing musical boundaries with abandon\, has gone through three distinct phases since it was founded in Miami in 1989. An initial period of heady success marked by big hits and critical acclaim in the ‘90s. A long hiatus starting 2003 when the musicians each went their own way. And finally\, a triumphant reunion in 2012 which held long enough for them to recently celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary. Now\, The Mavericks have ushered in the fourth phase of their evolution with the #1Billboard debut of their first-ever\, all Spanish album\, En Español\, released on the band’s own Mono Mundo label. Although all 12 tracks are in Spanish\, as the title suggests\, the collection represents a diversity of musical styles and cultural traditions\, from tender boleros to brassy mariachi to reimagined Afro-Cuban classics. Seven of the tunes are familiar gems drawn from the vast Latin American songbook\, while five are originals written or co-written by Malo. Like the band’s entire body of music\, this one album cannot be boxed into a single category. The songs are as diverse as Latin America itself\, and as cohesive as the ideal of the American melting pot. DESCRIPTION:Come Celebrate Family Paddle Day at the Lakefield Beach on Thursday\, June 22 at 5:30pm. \nCelebrating Lakefield’s historical connection to canoe building\, anyone with a wooden boat is encouraged to join in the Paddle Day event. You can bring your own canoe or kayak or use the canoes and kayaks that will be provided by Adventure Outfitters on a first come first served basis. To guarantee yourself a boat\, please call Adventure Outfitters prior to the event to request a canoe or kayak (705) 652-7986. \nAfter paddling around Lake Katchawanooka and around the Marsh\, participants are invited to enjoy hot dogs and marshmallows over an open bonfire and a piece of “Canoe Cake” baked by Jennie Mackenzie of the Lakefield Pantry. \nIn the event of inclement weather\, this event will be postponed to Monday\, June 26\, 2023.
