SUMMARY:SPARK Photo Festival 2022
DESCRIPTION:SPARK Photo Festival is a month-long celebration of photography and the artists\, dreamers\, innovators\, storytellers\, professionals and enthusiasts behind the camera lens. \nThe 2022 Festival brings 26 new exhibits in 22 venues and the art of more than 100 photographers to the City of Peterborough\, Peterborough County\, Lindsay and Fenelon Falls. Photography exhibits are installed in public venues\, and are all free to visit. \nThe exhibits feature different photography styles and subjects \, captured by students\, amateurs\, hobbyists and professionals – some exhibiting for the very first time with others as seasoned professionals who have exhibited in every Festival since 2013. \nVisit individual exhibits\, group and community organization exhibits and the SPARK exhibits. The SPARK Showcase: Peterborough Then & Now is a collection historical images from around Peterborough County from our museum partners matched with current captures of those very same locations by local photographers. The Monochrome Themed Juried Exhibit features the Top 25 monochrome images as selected by our professional jury from the submissions from photographers across Ontario. \nWhether it’s in a shop\, library\, office window or a restaurant\, the SPARK photography exhibits are brightening up Peterborough and the Kawarthas for the month of April.

This show has been extended until June 12\, 2022. \nLaura Madera’s Nocturnal Garden brings together a body of paintings in a luminous symphony\, offering new ways of noticing the ephemeral coming together of light and air amplified on botanical silhouettes. She received her BFA from Emily Carr University\, BC\, and an MFA from the University of Guelph\, ON. Madera’s studio is located in Peterborough\, ON\, on Treaty 20 and in the traditional territory of the Mississauga Anishinaabeg.

SUMMARY:Ghost Seamstress | Michèle Karch-Ackerman
DESCRIPTION:The act of making garments by hand\, one by one\, each time with a wearer in mind\, is an act of devotion. When the intended is no longer living\, this may seem an impractical gift. What it does\, is hold space for their imagined lives\, a place in which to put the energies of grief and hope. Each stitch is a reverential gesture; an offering; a product of care. The threads of Ghost Seamstress wind through histories\, literature\, domesticity\, nostalgia\, and labour to consider the lives of women and girls. \nMichèle Karch-Ackerman is a nationally recognized contemporary artist whose installations are known for inspiring viewers with their provocative and touching subject matter. For over thirty years her artistic practice has involved the devotional act of sewing clothing. Karch-Ackerman is an installation artist drawn to domestic\, traditionally feminine\, work: embroidery\, needlepoint\, knitting\, dress and doll-making. Her work considers the dead\, the forgotten\, and the hurting.

SUMMARY:Market Hall Performing Arts Centre Presents Irish Mythen featuring Melissa Payne
DESCRIPTION:Irish was born in Ireland and now resides in Charlottetown\, Prince Edward Island\, Canada. “This Island creates music and musicians\, art and artists. I found a shift to take things more seriously when I moved here.” And she did just that. \nHer latest release\, Little Bones\, gained her recognition around the globe\, including a 2020 JUNO nomination for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year\, seven Music PEI 2020 nominations\, including Album of the Year\, Entertainer of the Year\, and SOCAN Songwriter of the Year\, and a Canadian Folk Music Nomination for Solo Artist of the Year. Her previous self-titled album\, Irish Mythen\, garnered awards and nominations from Music PEI\, East Coast Music Association\, Folk Alliance International and SOCAN. \nWrite-ups in Australian Guitar Magazine\, Rollingstone and a plethora of other print and online media world wide have helped plant Irish firmly on the map of Must-See Artists. Irish’s live performances are a thing of raw power\, emotion and a connection with her audience that just has to be seen to be believed.
