SUMMARY:Vástádus Eana (The Answer is Land)
DESCRIPTION:Seven black-clad women\, fists raised\, brandish megaphones above their heads\, in front of the Market Hall Performing Arts Centre. They start dancing to ask the land for permission to gather on it. Then\, walking with heads held high\, they lead the audience into the theatre for Vástádus eana: a galvanizing choreographed concert that amplifies the long-repressed voices of the Sámi people. \nThrough their polyphonic chants and movements\, the performers draw us into an a cappella story of resistance and healing. Their voices are rooted in joik\, the captivating Sámi music sung while travelling across the land. Embodying memory\, they celebrate the alliances between all living creatures and the land\, between nature and the community. Inspired by socio-ecological movements and Sámi spirituality\, this hymn pays tribute to all those who fight injustice.

SUMMARY:Intuitive Painting Workshop: Lotus Painting
DESCRIPTION:Lotuses are exceptionally stunning flowers that grow in swampy and muddy/mucky waterbed habitats. We are fortunate to have an abundance of waterlilies in the water bodies surrounding the Peterborough area. Om Mane Padme Hum is a Hindu Mantra that roughly translates to “the Jewel of the Lotus”. It is a reminder that beautiful life can grow and blossom out of the deep dark muck and dirt. \nIn this workshop\, we will be creating lotus paintings\, and learning some fun acrylic painting techniques along the way. Each painting will turn out unique\, using our inner intuitive nudges\, support and guidance from the instructor\, and inner sense of play to create a vibrant and meaningful lotus painting.

DESCRIPTION:As the Art Gallery of Peterborough enters its 50th anniversary year in 2024\, we are digging into our archives and reconnecting with our founders to engage with our past. Looking through old photographs and archives offers us a chance to marvel at where we’ve been and where we’ve come from; at what has changed and what remains. Sifting through filing cabinets packed with layers of paperwork\, notes\, and images feels a bit like an archeological dig. We make careful work of it\, pausing when we unearth something precious\, like a handwritten letter on fine paper or a photograph with younger versions of familiar faces. \nThis juried exhibition invited artists to submit original works of art that resonate with themes of legacy\, archives\, nostalgia\, ghosts\, memory\, survival\, and growth. \nTree rings and stratified rock mark the passage of time and changing conditions\, like layers of once fashionable wallpaper. The strata of our lives can be studied and excavated\, unleashing seams of joy\, curiosity\, wonder\, or grief. Throughout three ramps and the main gallery\, works by fifty-five artists bring forward the findings of their own excavations.

Sixty percent of our vendors are primary producers who have gone through a third party inspection process to verify they grow 100% of what they sell. DESCRIPTION:As the Art Gallery of Peterborough enters its 50th anniversary year in 2024\, we are digging into our archives and reconnecting with our founders to engage with our past. Looking through old photographs and archives offers us a chance to marvel at where we’ve been and where we’ve come from; at what has changed and what remains. Sifting through filing cabinets packed with layers of paperwork\, notes\, and images feels a bit like an archeological dig. We make careful work of it\, pausing when we unearth something precious\, like a handwritten letter on fine paper or a photograph with younger versions of familiar faces. \nThis juried exhibition invited artists to submit original works of art that resonate with themes of legacy\, archives\, nostalgia\, ghosts\, memory\, survival\, and growth. \nTree rings and stratified rock mark the passage of time and changing conditions\, like layers of once fashionable wallpaper. The strata of our lives can be studied and excavated\, unleashing seams of joy\, curiosity\, wonder\, or grief. Throughout three ramps and the main gallery\, works by fifty-five artists bring forward the findings of their own excavations.
