SUMMARY:Get Out and Play: Winter Sports in Peterborough
DESCRIPTION:On exhibition December 10\, 2022 to March 19\, 2023\nEveryone knows that winter can be a long\, dark and cold season – but with activities to occupy the mind and body\, the season can move along quickly. Team sports provide entertainment to both those participating\, and spectators too. Individual sports can give participants peace and health. Despite the shorter days and longer nights\, there are many benefits when people can get out and play. \nGet Out and Play was developed in-house at the Peterborough Museum & Archives\, using artifacts\, archival images\, and stories from its collections. Visitors will see skates\, skis\, a toboggan\, and other winter sport equipment from days past. People can learn about the origins of some of their favourite winter sports\, as well as the context of these sports and clubs at a local level. It is easy to see how many of these cold-weather activities have remained popular pastimes among Canadians who are used to getting creative when the cold sets in. \nThe exhibit opens on Saturday\, December 10\, 2022 and will remain open until Sunday\, March 19\, 2023. \nAdmission is by donation. We look forward to seeing you!

DESCRIPTION:Show us how you celebrate winter! \nSnofest is back with an engaging schedule of free events to embrace and celebrate the beautiful winter season\, encouraging City residents to be active and social throughout the Family Day long weekend February 17 to 20\, 2023. \nStay busy this Family Day long weekend with fun activities that you can do with your friends and family to get active outside! Snap a photo and then share on it on Facebook. Be sure to tag @PtboRecreation \nThe events\, activities\, and challenges will run from February 17 to 20\, 2023 during the Family Day long weekend\, but you can participate and post your activities all month long! Share your photos by February 21\, 2023 for a chance to win great prizes. Contest winners will be selected by February 24\, 2023. \nSnofest highlights include a Family Swim\, a Snow Much Fun outdoor skating and snow play party at Quaker Foods City Square\, the Mayor’s Pancake Breakfast presented in partnership with the East Peterborough Lions Club and hosted by Mayor Jeff Leal\, a Snowsuit Storytime with the Peterborough Public Library and the Peterborough Museum and Archives\, a Family Day Skate on holiday Monday\, a Snow Sculpture Contest provided by the Art Gallery of Peterborough\, and more. Snofest Pete will be attending events throughout the long weekend. \nIn-person activities are available at various City venues and a variety of options are provided for residents to join in festivities virtually.\nVisit the schedule of events here!
