SUMMARY:To Honour and Respect: Gifts from the Michi Saagiig Women to the Prince of Wales\, 1860
DESCRIPTION:In April 2023\, quilled birch bark makaks made by women of Rice Lake Village (now Hiawatha First\nNation) will arrive at the Peterborough Museum & Archives (PMA) for an extended loan visit from the\nRoyal Collection Trust in England\, where they have been cared for since they were given to the young\nPrince of Wales in 1860. The makaks will be exhibited and will be the focus of activities: workshops on\nquillwork\, Michi Saagiig Anishnaabemowin\, special tours of the exhibit\, and some visits in which\nparticipants will be able to gently touch them. \nDr Lori Beavis (Hiawatha) and Dr Laura Peers curate the To Honour and Respect project\, with a Planning\nCircle including Gimaakwe Laurie Carr (Hiawatha)\, Kim Muskratt (Hiawatha)\, Veronica King-Jamieson\n(Mississaugas of the Credit) and others. The project is funded by the Museum Assistance Program\n(Department of Canadian Heritage)\, Canada Council for the Arts\, the Ontario Arts Council\, and Hiawatha\nFirst Nation\, with in-kind contributions by the City of Peterborough and the Peterborough Museum &\nArchives\, whose staff will care for the makaks during their visit. The Royal Collection Trust is lending the makaks.

DESCRIPTION:The best way to experience Art Crawl is to set out on foot and explore. Each month is different – you never know what you will stumble across. Check out the map and monthly listings for participating locations HERE!\nFirst Friday Peterborough is a downtown monthly art crawl that allows you to experience the city’s art\, music\, and food scene\, while supporting local artists\, people watching\, and taking in some city sights all at once. FFPTBO is dedicated to showcasing the immense artistic and musical talent in the Peterborough community. The art crawl is a self-guided tour of downtown galleries\, studios\, shops\, and cafés that takes place on the first Friday of every month\, between the hours of 6pm-11pm* \nThe First Friday Art crawl provides a welcoming energy and encourages everyone to come and enjoy the multifaceted creative culture of downtown. Each of the gallery\, studio\, and shop owners go out of their way to ensure the vibe is light\, friendly\, and completely unpretentious. \nThe event is family friendly + inclusive. \n*Note: some venues may have varied hours.
