DESCRIPTION:As the Art Gallery of Peterborough enters its 50th anniversary year in 2024\, we are digging into our archives and reconnecting with our founders to engage with our past. Looking through old photographs and archives offers us a chance to marvel at where we’ve been and where we’ve come from; at what has changed and what remains. Sifting through filing cabinets packed with layers of paperwork\, notes\, and images feels a bit like an archeological dig. We make careful work of it\, pausing when we unearth something precious\, like a handwritten letter on fine paper or a photograph with younger versions of familiar faces. \nThis juried exhibition invited artists to submit original works of art that resonate with themes of legacy\, archives\, nostalgia\, ghosts\, memory\, survival\, and growth. \nTree rings and stratified rock mark the passage of time and changing conditions\, like layers of once fashionable wallpaper. The strata of our lives can be studied and excavated\, unleashing seams of joy\, curiosity\, wonder\, or grief. Throughout three ramps and the main gallery\, works by fifty-five artists bring forward the findings of their own excavations.

SUMMARY:Woodburning Workshop: Easter Egg Ornaments
DESCRIPTION:Decorating eggs for Easter is a longstanding tradition in many parts of the world. Over time\, many cultures have developed their own decorative styles and ways to turn their Easter eggs into pieces of art. In this workshop\, we’ll be decorating wooden eggs with woodburning\, acrylic paint\, and pencil crayon to create 2 to 3 lovely egg ornaments (these can either sit on a surface since they have flat bottoms or be hung with a ribbon attached). A variety of patterns will be provided for all skill levels. You might bring home a little bunny\, chick\, or traditional patterned egg!

DESCRIPTION:For ages 7 and up\, a fun and educational arts activity for your March Break!  \nIn this workshop we will learn some basic bookbinding techniques and make a couple small books. We will learn about materials for books and how to use the pamphlet stitch technique\, as well as a few additional methods to make our journals. \nWe endeavor to use easy to source materials in all our classes so participants can continue to practice these crafts and techniques on their own if they so wish to! \nThis class is $30 per registrant. All materials are included. The class is 3 hours long and instructed by local artist Jeffrey Macklin of Jackson Creek Press.

DESCRIPTION:As the Art Gallery of Peterborough enters its 50th anniversary year in 2024\, we are digging into our archives and reconnecting with our founders to engage with our past. Looking through old photographs and archives offers us a chance to marvel at where we’ve been and where we’ve come from; at what has changed and what remains. Sifting through filing cabinets packed with layers of paperwork\, notes\, and images feels a bit like an archeological dig. We make careful work of it\, pausing when we unearth something precious\, like a handwritten letter on fine paper or a photograph with younger versions of familiar faces. \nThis juried exhibition invited artists to submit original works of art that resonate with themes of legacy\, archives\, nostalgia\, ghosts\, memory\, survival\, and growth. \nTree rings and stratified rock mark the passage of time and changing conditions\, like layers of once fashionable wallpaper. The strata of our lives can be studied and excavated\, unleashing seams of joy\, curiosity\, wonder\, or grief. Throughout three ramps and the main gallery\, works by fifty-five artists bring forward the findings of their own excavations.

SUMMARY:Youth - Learn to Weave
DESCRIPTION:For ages 7 and up\, a perfect educational and unique arts activity for your March Break! \nIn this introductory workshop we will learn about looms and play with weaving techniques. Weaving has a rich history throughout all cultures\, and is something we often don’t realize plays a huge part in everyday life! \nWe will explore the mechanics of several weaving methods. Our first activity will be to create a small woven sample on a cardboard loom. Then we will explore the Inkle loom\, used for weaving  thin strips of material and bands. Lastly\, there will be table looms set up for everyone to try their hand at. \nWe endeavor to use easy to source materials in our activities so participants can continue practicing even after the class if they so wish. \nThis class is $30 per registrant. All materials are included. The class is 3 hours long and instructed by Weavers’ and Spinners’ guild member Julia.
