SUMMARY:Ghost Seamstress | Michèle Karch-Ackerman
DESCRIPTION:The act of making garments by hand\, one by one\, each time with a wearer in mind\, is an act of devotion. When the intended is no longer living\, this may seem an impractical gift. What it does\, is hold space for their imagined lives\, a place in which to put the energies of grief and hope. Each stitch is a reverential gesture; an offering; a product of care. The threads of Ghost Seamstress wind through histories\, literature\, domesticity\, nostalgia\, and labour to consider the lives of women and girls. \nMichèle Karch-Ackerman is a nationally recognized contemporary artist whose installations are known for inspiring viewers with their provocative and touching subject matter. For over thirty years her artistic practice has involved the devotional act of sewing clothing. Karch-Ackerman is an installation artist drawn to domestic\, traditionally feminine\, work: embroidery\, needlepoint\, knitting\, dress and doll-making. Her work considers the dead\, the forgotten\, and the hurting.

SUMMARY:English Paper Piecing Quilt Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do you love richly coloured\, geometric quilt designs? Have you ever wondered how the sewer creates such sharp points and accurate piecing? \nEnglish Paper Piecing (EPP) is the answer and whether you are an experienced sewer or a complete beginner\, this workshop will introduce you to a highly accessible approach to designing and piecing your own patchwork projects. \nIn keeping with the traditional hand tool approach to stone carving shared by visiting Shona artists at Rice Lake Gallery\, we are pleased to offer two workshops led by experienced art educator\, Miriam Davidson. Miriam will guide you through the entire EPP process\, even if you are a novice sewer. If you are an experienced quilter\, you may enjoy leaving your machine behind to be inspired by the beauty of nature and the magnificent stone sculptures at the gallery. All you require for this workshop is curiosity\, patience and a pair of scissors..

SUMMARY:The Bowie Lives: A Bowie Spectacular returns to Market Hall
DESCRIPTION:THE BOWIE LIVES: A Bowie Spectacular is ready to ROCK on September 17th\, 2022\, at 8 pm returning to Peterborough’s Market Hall Performing Arts Centre. $37.oo tickets are on sale now at:\nboxoffice@markethall.org. 705 749 1146\nhttps://tickets.markethall.org/eventperformances.asp?evt=196 \nIt’s been over two years since the pandemic and The Bowie Lives sold out the Market Hall performance on January 10th\, 2020\, and they are excited to resume touring and return to Market Hall on Sept. 17\, 2022! \n“5 Stars! Unbelievable!” says Richard Crouse\, Host of CTV PopLife. \n“By far\, the best & coolest Bowie Tribute I’ve seen!” says Sam Grosso\, Cadillac Productions\, Toronto Ontario. \nThey’re talking about “The Bowie Lives” Canada’s most sensational Bowie Spectacular! Michael Bell is an award-winning vocalist who channels the sound and styles of David Bowie\, and with the help of an all-star band\, venue\, and costumes to capture the imagination of fans young and old. \nThe love of Bowie began as a teen and then\, later on\, Michael created his first theatrical production called “ChangesAllBowie” which toured the “A circuit” in the ’80s. He hung up his “Ziggy” in the early ’90s and never imagined professionally performing Bowie again! However\, after David’s untimely death on January 10\, 2016\, his calling returned\, as did the industry interest. Contacting long-time musical director Michael Beauclerc\, they began auditioning players to fill out a band capable of performing some of rock’s most challenging material. The Bowie Lives bring all the hits to the stage spanning 4 decades deep from Space Oddity to Lazarus\, and everything in between. \nThe Bowie Lives\, pre-show includes the Bowie Bazaar; collectibles bought and sold\, put on Bowie make-up and costume props to help you get your Bowie on plus photo opportunities and so much more! \nCome in costume dressed as your favorite David Bowie persona! Fun for all ages. \nMichael is also the subject of an upcoming documentary film Being David Bowie slated for release in 2022. \nPut on your red shoes and dance the blues! \nFor more information visit www.thebowielives.com
