SUMMARY:Ets’ehch’I; Traditional Dene Burial Practices | Antoine Mountain
DESCRIPTION:“We call it Feeding the Fire\,” Uncle quietly offers…\nThe Mountain Dene are naturally of a world apart\, in its way separate from our usual worldly cares and woes.\nTo keep it alive is an education in itself. – Antoine Mountain \n“Ets’ehch’I; Traditional Dene Burial Practices” is comprised of twenty-one paintings by Dene artist\, Antoine Mountain\, that share depictions taken from stories\, beliefs\, and traditions as an epistemological tool of Dene resurgence. \nAntoine Mountain is Dene\, North American First Nations\, originally from Radelie Koe/Fort Good Hope\, of the Dene Nation\, in northern Canada. His hometown is just a few miles from the Arctic Circle. In addition to his writing and scholarship\, Mountain is a painter primarily working in acrylics across a number of styles with Impressionist influence. The colours of the North and deep-rooted spiritualism inform his approach to depicting landscape\, portraits\, and figurative scenes.

SUMMARY:Stan Olthuis | Interconnected
DESCRIPTION:Interconnected is a solo exhibition of work by Stan Olthuis. Grounding the entire project is Mira la Vida\, a large-scale kinetic sculpture comprised of two eight-foot intersecting discs representing the elements of our world: water\, earth\, fire\, and air. \nStan Olthuis is a Canadian multi-disciplinary visual artist currently based in Nogojiwanong/Peterborough. His work is driven by an ongoing curiosity of our relationship to the world around us. Often reinterpreting persistent symbolisms such as sacred geometry\, Olthuis explores spatial tension and interaction through abstract shapes and audience provocations powered by a colourful palette.

SUMMARY:Marc Jordan & Amy Sky...Together in Concert!
DESCRIPTION:Marc Jordan & Amy Sky…Together in Concert is\, in short\, magical! Two much-loved and respected\, multiple award-winning Canadian singer-songwriters fuse their individual talents to create a spellbinding evening of entertainment. As Canadian broadcaster Ross Porter wrote\, “If music is doing it’s job\, one of its functions is to act as a salve to the troubled times in our lives. Marc performs….with so much affection and imagination\, the mission is accomplished.” The very same can be said of Amy. Throughout the evening\, aside from their wry humour and anecdotes spanning 36 years of marriage\, each will perform a generous sampling of their own hits…for example\, Amy’s I Will Take Care of You\, Til You Love Somebody and Love\, Pain and the Whole Damn Thing\, and Marc’s Marina del Rey\, Tears of Hercules and\, of course\, his worldwide #1 hit Rhythm of My Heart. Nonetheless\, the real magic comes when Marc and Amy sing together – the melody intertwined with innovative and unexpected harmonies – his smoky\, jazz-tinged voice comes in above her gutsy\, gravelly alto\, next phrase they weave around each other\, and Amy is soaring over Marc\, so deliciously evident in songs like Long Shot and Free Fallin’ from their critically acclaimed Juno nominated album He Sang\, She Sang. For this series of concerts\, they will be joined by a group of outstanding musical friends under the direction of renowned producer/composer and keyboardist Lou Pomanti. \nMarc Jordan & Amy Sky…Together in Concert!…the whole is\, indeed\, greater than the sum of it’s parts.
