DESCRIPTION:“We call it Feeding the Fire\,” Uncle quietly offers…\nThe Mountain Dene are naturally of a world apart\, in its way separate from our usual worldly cares and woes.\nTo keep it alive is an education in itself. – Antoine Mountain \n“Ets’ehch’I; Traditional Dene Burial Practices” is comprised of twenty-one paintings by Dene artist\, Antoine Mountain\, that share depictions taken from stories\, beliefs\, and traditions as an epistemological tool of Dene resurgence. \nAntoine Mountain is Dene\, North American First Nations\, originally from Radelie Koe/Fort Good Hope\, of the Dene Nation\, in northern Canada. His hometown is just a few miles from the Arctic Circle. In addition to his writing and scholarship\, Mountain is a painter primarily working in acrylics across a number of styles with Impressionist influence. The colours of the North and deep-rooted spiritualism inform his approach to depicting landscape\, portraits\, and figurative scenes.

SUMMARY:Stan Olthuis | Interconnected
DESCRIPTION:Interconnected is a solo exhibition of work by Stan Olthuis. Grounding the entire project is Mira la Vida\, a large-scale kinetic sculpture comprised of two eight-foot intersecting discs representing the elements of our world: water\, earth\, fire\, and air. \nStan Olthuis is a Canadian multi-disciplinary visual artist currently based in Nogojiwanong/Peterborough. His work is driven by an ongoing curiosity of our relationship to the world around us. Often reinterpreting persistent symbolisms such as sacred geometry\, Olthuis explores spatial tension and interaction through abstract shapes and audience provocations powered by a colourful palette.

DESCRIPTION:$25 per adult (16+) to fish all week.\nRegistered youth from the “Youth Fishing Derby” may fish daily using their existing wristband.\nOn-site registration daily from 8am-9pm. Cash\, debit\, and credit accepted.\nTwo (2) Trout per person per day may be kept. Once you have caught your two Trout you may continue to fish but must catch and release. MNRF regulations still apply for aggregate possession limit: S-5 and C-2.\nSecurity and Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) officials will be onsite to enforce provincial regulations.\n\nThis family friendly derby is run by generous volunteers and staff.

SUMMARY:Weaving Workshop: Coiled Basketry with Foraged Materials
DESCRIPTION:For generations\, people have been using locally sourced and readily available materials to create baskets. In the first class of this two-part workshop\, you’ll learn about a variety of local plants that can be used for basketry\, as well as items that might be growing in your own yard and home or even found in the fridge. We’ll also go into detail on how to gather\, prepare\, and dry these items to make baskets. I’ll show a few techniques for making braids and cordage out of natural materials. Finally\, we’ll look at how to make inserts with wood and nut slices. In the second half\, you’ll be able to use the materials you’ve prepared to make your own small coiled basket. You’ll also learn some of the more complex stitches that can be used in this type of basketry. \nWhile all the tools and materials you’ll need will be provided\, feel free to forage locally in your own yard\, neighbourhood\, or even fridge for items that could become baskets. Some great materials include grasses (long\, thin\, and leafy are best)\, long pine needles\, cattail leaves\, reeds\, dandelion stems\, cornhusks\, iris/crocosmia/lily/daffodil leaves (from the garden or saved from bouquets)\, young raspberry stalks\, burdock stalks\, spider plant\, bamboo leaves\, wild garlic stem\, rhubarb stalk\, leeks\, and even banana skins (bring a whole eating banana if you want to learn to make lovely black cordage). Any items you’d like to work with should be brought to the first class.

DESCRIPTION:Crochet is one way of taking yarn and turning it into an item or something new. Learning to create crochet granny squares can open the doors to an abundance of fun and exciting projects; like blankets\, sweaters\, bucket hats\, and so much more! \nThis workshop is recommended for beginners. Having some basic knowledge/experience with crochet is helpful for getting started\, but not necessary. You’ll learn how to chain stitch\, single crochet stitch\, double crochet stitch\, and create a basic granny square. Please note that the instructor is left handed\, so this workshop is especially helpful for lefties who are looking for left hand instruction. This workshop is offered at $45 per person with all supplies included with a $10 material fee

DESCRIPTION:Two of Canada’s greatest roots singer-songwriters have finally done what everybody’s wanted — heck\, what they’ve wanted — for years. Dave Gunning and J.P. Cormier are releasing their first album together\, called Two. Great friends\, frequent collaborators\, co-writers and touring partners\, the pair has been talking about this album since pretty much the day they met. Now it’s here\, and it’s everything fans hoped and dreamed it would be. \nThe album is called Two because that’s what it is\, just the two of them. \nTwo is made up of everything the duo excels at. There are new collaborations between the two writers (Brothers\, Home To Mary)\, new arrangements of antique folk numbers (Johnny Armstrong\, Katie o’ the Gowrie)\, and some tasty\, surprising covers (Never Picked Cotton\, Stompin’ Tom’s Songbird Valley). \nGunning & Cormier go back 23 years when Dave had a fiddle player drop out of a show at the last minute. “He hired me for a gig when I was just back from Nashville\, nobody knew me here\,” says Cormier. \nSince they’ve been two of the busiest solo musicians in the country these past two decades\, it’s been impossible to schedule time to make a full album and properly tour it. But that all changed three years ago when Cormier moved just down the road from Gunning in Nova Scotia’s Pictou County\, and the pair were able to meet often at Gunning’s home studio. \nFirst\, they picked some great songs. Then they figured out their guitar parts\, and when ready recorded the guitars ‘live-off-the-floor’ simultaneously. Then they recorded their vocals together. This recording technique gave them what they’d hoped for\, something unlike their solo albums: The power of Two. \nTwo is as real as it gets. Two songwriters\, interpreters\, guitar players\, and singers at their peak. It’s the power of the song\, the highest quality from the past to the now. It’s two friends\, brothers\, uncompromising performers\, making the album of their lives. There couldn’t be a better time to discover Gunning & Cormier\, and the power of Two.
