DESCRIPTION:For centuries\, puppetry has been a practiced artform across the globe. Marionettes are a lively medium for sharing stories\, animating myths and legends\, and for entertaining audiences. The Peterborough Puppet Guild was founded in 1953 and operated for over a decade\, performing as well as hosting marionette-building workshops. \nOn display at the Peterborough Museum & Archives are selections of marionettes from the Peterborough Puppet Guild’s vast collection\, set within themed vignettes that include the Wizard of Oz\, King Neptune\, Liberace’s band\, and more! \nAll strings considered\, you’re knot going to find a collection of marionettes like this anywhere else!

DESCRIPTION:As the Art Gallery of Peterborough enters its 50th anniversary year in 2024\, we are digging into our archives and reconnecting with our founders to engage with our past. Looking through old photographs and archives offers us a chance to marvel at where we’ve been and where we’ve come from; at what has changed and what remains. Sifting through filing cabinets packed with layers of paperwork\, notes\, and images feels a bit like an archeological dig. We make careful work of it\, pausing when we unearth something precious\, like a handwritten letter on fine paper or a photograph with younger versions of familiar faces. \nThis juried exhibition invited artists to submit original works of art that resonate with themes of legacy\, archives\, nostalgia\, ghosts\, memory\, survival\, and growth. \nTree rings and stratified rock mark the passage of time and changing conditions\, like layers of once fashionable wallpaper. The strata of our lives can be studied and excavated\, unleashing seams of joy\, curiosity\, wonder\, or grief. Throughout three ramps and the main gallery\, works by fifty-five artists bring forward the findings of their own excavations.

DESCRIPTION:Bundle up and enjoy the best the season has to offer at this free Family Skate\, shake off the January blahs in the fresh outdoor air having fun\, getting exercise and connecting with our community. \nThe celebration will feature music by DJ Lynz creating an upbeat atmosphere and free hot chocolate for attendees to enjoy. A limited supply of free toques from Call2Recycle – a not-for-profit organization that provides battery recycling programs – will be handed out on a first come\, first served basis. \nSkate and helmet rental is available at Runner’s Life\, located at 174 Charlotte St.\, northeast of the Quaker Foods City Square entrance on Charlotte Street. Rental rates and hours of operation can be found at Runner’s Life. The Runner’s Life sponsorship with the City of Peterborough and skate rental service complements the City’s outdoor rink\, helping more people enjoy an outdoor skating experience in Peterborough.
