SUMMARY:Get Out and Play: Winter Sports in Peterborough
DESCRIPTION:On exhibition December 10\, 2022 to March 19\, 2023\nEveryone knows that winter can be a long\, dark and cold season – but with activities to occupy the mind and body\, the season can move along quickly. Team sports provide entertainment to both those participating\, and spectators too. Individual sports can give participants peace and health. Despite the shorter days and longer nights\, there are many benefits when people can get out and play. \nGet Out and Play was developed in-house at the Peterborough Museum & Archives\, using artifacts\, archival images\, and stories from its collections. Visitors will see skates\, skis\, a toboggan\, and other winter sport equipment from days past. People can learn about the origins of some of their favourite winter sports\, as well as the context of these sports and clubs at a local level. It is easy to see how many of these cold-weather activities have remained popular pastimes among Canadians who are used to getting creative when the cold sets in. \nThe exhibit opens on Saturday\, December 10\, 2022 and will remain open until Sunday\, March 19\, 2023. \nAdmission is by donation. We look forward to seeing you!

DESCRIPTION:Winterfest 2023\n\nWhat: It’s no time to hibernate this February! Warm up to some cool activities in support of a good cause. Winterfest 2023 returns this February with proceeds going to Five Counties Children’s Centre. Enjoy fun-filled virtual activities all month and take part in the return of in-person events for the entire family — fittingly on the Family Day long weekend.\nWhen: February 2023\, including:\n\nFebruary 1-28 – Winterfest kicks off with the first-ever ‘Thank You Card Contest’ for Kids. Help Five Counties show appreciation to its supporters by writing words\, creating a drawing\, or colouring a picture that says\, ‘thank you.’ Kids can enter to win prizes\, and one child’s artwork will be selected and featured on Five Counties thank you cards. Find contest rules and colouring sheet samples on the Five Counties website.\nFebruary 1-21 – Purchase a ticket for the Winterfest Raffle and support Five Counties. Tickets are $5 each\, or three for $10. You have a chance to win first prize of a new PS4 Pro\, or a second prize of a Seattle Kraken jersey and puck signed by Vince Dunn. Tickets available at Brant Basics\, all in-person Winterfest events or by calling (705) 748-2337\, ext. 300\nFebruary 16-21 – Check out the many Winterfest Virtual Events available this year\, including a workout with the Peterborough Petes\, winter trivia\, winter scavenger hunt\, story times\, family photo contest\, Washboard Hank concert\, baking demo\, snow creature contest\, magic show and colouring contest.\nFebruary 16-21 – Winterfest gears up with its Online Auction featuring a selection of hand-made quilts\, artisanal wood items\, gift cards\, kids’ toys\, and much more. Be sure to register and join the bidding.\nFebruary 18 – See you in-person for fun\, family-friendly Winterfest activities set for Lansdowne Place (645 Lansdowne St. W.) in Peterborough from 10 am to 2 pm.\nFebruary 20 – Cap the Family Day long weekend by cheering on the Peterborough Petes as the team faces off against the Sudbury Wolves at 2 pm.
