at Peterborough Museum & Archives

Since its founding in 1825, Peterborough has thrived. Its early lumber economy gave way to industry by the 1870s as it began to take advantage of the fast-flowing waters of the Otonabee River by generating electricity. For decades, industry in Peterborough continued to flourish until global markets shifted and many companies began to decline. Others changed their products and methods of production in order to survive. This exhibit celebrated industries and businesses of the past, and those who remain in the present, hoping to chart a sustainable way into the future with new innovations. Yes, these products were Made in Canada РReally!

On exhibition until October 1, 2017.

This initiative is made possible by the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th, a collaboration between the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough, Community Foundations of Canada, the Government of Canada, and extraordinary leaders from coast to coast to coast.
