Facts

  • Peterborough is located in South Eastern Ontario, on the northeastern edge of the Greater Golden Horseshoe and is part of the Oak Ridges Moraine

  • The Greater Peterborough Area is comprised of the City of Peterborough and eight municipalities within the County of Peterborough

  • Peterborough & the Kawarthas is ideally situated along the Trent-Severn Waterway

  • Peterborough is home to the highest hydraulic Lift Lock in the world, Lock 21.

  • There are over 134 lakes in the Peterborough region

  • There are over 300 festivals and events in the summer months alone

  • Peterborough was named after Peter Robinson, an early Canadian politician who oversaw the first major immigration to the area.

  • Nicknames: The Electric City, The Patch, P-Dot, Peterpatch

  • First Nations people came to the area 11,000 years ago, there are two notable sites surviving from this era, Petroglyphs Provincial Park and Serpent Mounds.

  • Peterborough & the Kawarthas is well known for its music scene, and has been home to bands and musicians such as I Mother Earth, The Spades, Thousand Foot Krutch, Rick Fines, Jimmy Bowskill, Birthday Boys, Three Days Grace, Sebastian Bach, Rockin’ Ronnie Hawkins, Serena Ryder and Washboard Hank to name a few

  • The Peterborough Petes are the longest continuously operating team in the Ontario Hockey League

  • The Peterborough Pete’s have produced a record number of NHL players, such as Eric & Jordan Staal, Mike Fisher, Chris Pronger, Steve Yzerman, Tie Domi, Bob Gainey and coaches such as Scotty Bowman, Roger Neilson and Mike Keenan.
