Experience Winter in Peterborough & the Kawarthas
Warm Up to Winter.
When you’ve had enough of grey slush, and are looking a little grey yourself, break free – if even for a day – by heading out to Peterborough & the Kawarthas. With your heart pumping, the wind in your cheeks and shouts of joy, you can skate on the canal, ski down hill, make a snowman. Drive a snowmobile full out or snow shoe through the silent wood. When you’re done, there’s always a warm fire, cup of steaming chocolate and a scrumptious meal waiting for you and yours. Curl up with a book or a close friend. Hug your kids. Give your mind a break and let your heart go. Are you the indoor type? Museums, galleries, shops, restaurants and cultural events open their doors to you. Our seasons never sleep.
‘Tis the Season
Retail therapy awaits you at Lansdowne Place mall and adorably decorated shop windows light the main streets of our towns and villages. A fresh macchiato at a downtown Peterborough café will warm more than your heart. Can you picture an utterly unique holiday gift? It’s quite possible that you’ll find it at Gallery on the Lake. It’s one of the Ontario’s largest retail galleries with a reputation for nature and landscape artworks. Check out Whetung Ojibwa Centre, for an amazing selection of aboriginal arts and crafts.
Ice Is Nice
Especially for anglers. Care to join them? To see hockey played with real grit, check out the Peterborough Petes. At Lakefield’s PolarFest you can marvel at the ice sculptures, tale a Polar Plunge, watch Olympic class speed skating or just play some pond hockey. The Kawartha Nordic Ski Club, run by volunteers, boast miles of groomed and wilderness trails, and a cozy chalet to warm up in.
Getting It Down Cold
Elmhirst’s Resort’s sought-after annual Winemakers Dinners pair premium wines from very select vineyards with fine, locally-sourced cuisine – the provisions often originating from Elmhirst’s own farm. Irwin Inn overlooks storied Stony Lake. Warm yourself by the dining room fire and take in the panoramic view. Or have Irwin’s exquisite fare delivered to your suite. Isn’t that romantic?
