The Township of Cavan Monaghan is a rural area which includes several small hamlets and villages including Bailieboro, Cavan, Fraserville, and Millbrook. The Township is located approximately 20 km south west of the City of Peterborough and provides a beautiful rural setting in an old-time country atmosphere. This Township takes pride in its Canadian heritage, which is evident through its well-preserved villages, its strong sense of history, and its current-day ties to the past.
Cavan Monaghan is a tightly knit community with a passion for its downtown core, located in Millbrook. Wander through the charming downtown, exactly the way you would picture one in the movies. No wonder it’s a popular location for filming, for example Life starring Robert Pattinson. Milbrook offers something for everyone; the artists may enjoy a trip to Galerie Q, while the shopper can take the time to enjoy the unique gift shops such as Bear Essentials and the foodie may stop for a treat at the Pastry Peddler. The historian in your group can enjoy the Self Guided Walking Tour as planned by the Millbrook & Cavan Historical Society and explore the 44 historically significant buildings in town. The artists may enjoy a trip to Galerie Q, which showcases over 500 pieces created by Canadian artists.
For those who enjoy the outdoors, the township offers an extensive trail system. Millbrook Valley Trails consists of five different trails, all varying in difficulty and distance. The trails wind through forests, wetlands, meadows and offer an amazing wildlife experience. Take the 3km Baxter Creek Trail and throw your line in to catch some trout, herons, kingfishers and see many other species. Enjoy a picnic in Millpond Park which serves as a peaceful resting area surrounding the Old Mill and Millpond.
After that cultural exploration finish off with a night at the theatre. The 4th Line Theatre offers a unique experience that visitors from across Ontario and around the world travel to see. This theatre company has been performing at their outdoor venue for 25 seasons. They are known for producing all-Canadian plays about the lives and stories of Canada and its residents. The 2016 season included the plays The Hero of Hunter St. (June 28-July 23) and The Bad Luck Bank Robbers (August 2-27).
