Breakfast Television Stopped By…
When the Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism team arrived at Del Crary Park in the wee hours of Friday morning, the crickets were still chirping, the sun was not yet out, and there were enthusiastic Breakfast Television fans already parking their cars, setting up their chairs, anxiously awaiting the arrival of Kevin Frankish and Dina Pugliese from CityTV’s Breakfast Television.
The crowd cheered as they got their moment in the spotlight on CityTV. Local attractions such as the Indian River Reptile Zoo, Kawartha Dairy, The Canadian Canoe Museum, and Lang Pioneer Village all got a shining moment to promote Peterborough & the Kawarthas. There was a cooking segment with Chef Brad Watt from Rare Grill House, where he served up a little summer sweetness with “A Strawberry Mess” – his take on strawberries and cream.
Kevin and Dina joined the crowd in enjoying free ice cream from Kawartha Dairy. Two locals competed in the Olympic-inspired Peterborough Games. Their tossing and balance skills were tested as the crowd watched them toss a rubber worm into a bucket then balance a bouncy ball on a cutting board. Unscrambling letters to spell BT ROCKS! won the prize of a two-night stay at Viamede Resort, with the runner-up receiving a round of golf for two at Kawartha Golf and Country Club. After the show, fans got the chance to pose for a keepsake picture with the personable and charming Kevin and Dina.
We had been anticipating a crowd, but the attendance numbers were impressive, with several hundred people turning out with their warmest Peterborough & the Kawarthas welcomes. There was also a large social media buzz leading up to, and “tweet up” during the event – our hashtag “#BTinPtbo” trended as one of the most popular conversations in Ontario on Friday. And if our number of walk-ins at the Visitor Centre over the weekend are any indication of the impression made on their large viewing audience, we are looking forward to a busy August in Peterborough & the Kawarthas.
